Miller probably is set on not working out a deal, before UFA '23, why wouldn't he? He's going to be the hottest free agent on the market and could get the max deal anywhere he wants to go, leaving us holding his bags, while he goes around trying everyone how much he LOVES Vancouver and would LOVE to stay for the rest of his career. 🤨

I agree. His best money will come with UFA... not an extension. I really don't know why people are so set on the idea he will take a deal his agent feels is less than what UFA will bring. Other teams are definitely thinking this as well...

It comes down to this... Canucks not letting teams talk are hoping someone takes a chance without knowing. It may be the best shot they have but it's hardly a position of strength... and not likely leading to a hot bidding war any time before the TDL when he'll only fetch a rental return.

And remember, this predisposes Miller not getting injured or having an incredibly bad season, which considering that his best season before this was a 70 point and 56 point season is not out of the question.

If he plays roughly what he did this year, then maybe we can squeeze a decent prospect and maybe a late first or mid 2nd (although since the '23 Draft is supposed to be loaded with talent in the first round, those picks are going to be impossible to get, let alone 2nd rounders). If not, we'll be lucky to get someone like Dermott and maybe a 4th for Miller.

Why would teams like NJ and LA make a big trade package for a player when they have no idea his asking price or if he's intent on going to UFA? That defies the idea of them taking Miller because they are ready. If Miller walked a season after giving up picks prospects young players... what does that do to your rebuild?
- boonerbuck

In LAs case cause they still have a winning core and possibly could push next season for a deep run. I would be letting him negotiate though, ups the return if he does. Maybe JR knows he’s not going to extend with anyone, doesn’t want the word out.

Trade miler for a 2nd round pick and move on. They can’t roll the exact team out again. It’s embarrassing how new management has handled the “rebuilt” so far. Do they love Bennings core ?

Is JTM under team control? He's got more clout than most think.

Always that as a worse case scenario for us. We’ll see how contracts go & the longer it goes the more likely this is very true.

New management was handed all of this. Takes time to unravel things they want to get done. Nobody can say it would be easy & expect a retool could magically be expedited.

In bold is exactly what I've been saying. I would open up communication but if you know he's intent on going UFA.... what can you do... damned if you do, damned if you don't. Best opportunities are in the past most likely then.

If things ever really went sideways dealing JTM the sheer enjoyment of witnessing the meltdown here and on Canucks Twitter would be epic.

It would be a disaster. Look at it this way, when Benning came in, he didnt have an opportunity like this(Miller). Canucks best players were locked down with NMC. No young players stepping up aside from Horvat. Prospect cupboards completely empty.

This management has the Miller asset, a core of good young players, a few prospects. Their position isnt amazing but a pretty good opportunity still. It would be a massive set back if they (frank)ed up the Miller trade.

Agree to all of this. All we can do is hope Miller moved fetches a good return. Still optimistic I am.

Makes zero sense. Agents almost 100% of the time will advise a client to do an extension if they can find a deal they like and a location they like. Going to free agency can be a huge risk.

If my faith in the management team is well founded I assume they have a very good idea what Miller will fetch now. How long it takes to pull the trigger is all that remains. That also applies to any other player either shopped or asked about. Summarizing it all there will be changes & we’ll all have our opinions on them. Duh lol

Thanks Carol.

Yes to Bailey, if he’s take another two way deal. He was ok in limited minutes in the NHL.

Trade DiPietro to Toronto for future considerations.

Give Silovs the ball in Abbotsford next year and get him a Wiley old veteran to back him up. Maybe Mike Smith is available

If this is the case then management is dumb not to let a team ask about an extension.

I’m not sure who’s who anymore. I feel like some of the haters are slurping a bit and some of the slurpers are hating a bit. It’s very Canuck though.

Not really, in UFA teams can sign any player without needing to worry about having to lose assets, that's not the case otherwise. An agent is going to want to maximize his clients earnings potential and that's not by doing an extension unless the player is dead set on playing on the team that wants to trade for them. Miller likely is watching Gaudreau and looking to get a deal like his next year, probably in the range of 9-10.5 mil for 6-7 years and cash in on his 100 point season last year. If he at least gets near that ppg next year, then he's going to get it somewhere and he'll have all the leverage at UFA to get it wherever he wants it.

Until he gets a career ending injury. Or a season ending injury. And he gets offers that are much worse. He’s not going to get a better extension than right now coming off the season he had.

Exactly & besides he hasn’t been as consistent as Gaudreau & is dreaming if he think he’s getting up to 10m.
