I just cant understand what all the anti-Malkin vibe is about here in town. Reporter after reporter goes on air and talks about how Malkin is fading and how he isnt worth a 4th year. "I wouldn't give him a 4th year" says one. " The Penguins would be nuts to give him a 4th year at this age" says another.
Fans then predictably call and agree with the talking head....
Do they not realize this man tried to play through a torn ACL in 2021 and was coming off a major knee surgery during a pandemic last year? After having a full offseason to properly train and strengthen, I expect a bounce back year.
Do these people really think there is a better option out there ?
You'll pay more for someone like Gaudreau or Kadri. Anyone else (such as Trochek) would be a step down from Malkin--even at his age. Makes me wonder if Hextall's inner Flyer is coming through

Sort of like how fans predictably take Rossi at face value even though he's been known to play loose with the truth because his article can be used as proof that the Pens are low-balling Geno.

I 100% want Geno back, but I'll need more than Rossi to say it's because they won't give him 6M for 4 years

He’s going to sign in Pittsburgh. This whole “respect” thing is laughable. He played out his contract and he got payed. Working on getting him back on the best deal possible isn’t disrespectful.

Look, Malkin has been a legend in Pittsburgh for a long time. He has incredible offensive gifts and is a dynamic game changing player. What Ryan Wilson fails to address with Malkin though, is how incredibly lazy, inconsistent and defensively irresponsible he is. Yes he is a point per game player. But how many of these points came on the powerplay? 5 on 5, there have been so many games where he just doesnt show up. How many shorthanded goals on the powerplay were given up because Malkin made some stupid pass or did not get back and cover defensively when he is one of the point guys? Literally so many times I've lost count. How many games last year did Malkin play and you wonder where he is? Lots. Yes he can put the puck in the net, but points dont tell the full story with Malkin. His play has numerously hurt the team with his lack of effort.

(frank).

Please post any videos of a shorthanded goal being scored against the Pens because Malkin didn't cover his point man.

Cool, so basically Zucker.

Whatever you all overrate him. I'd take him back at the right price, but go to free agency and try to do better first.

- Tojo.

Except he’s scoring. If Zucker scored 20G he’d be worth his contract.

Shame on you, but that’s what they deserve if they won’t give him that fourth (frank)in year.

If the reports are true, and it’s really about one year, just pay the man. You’re not going to get better value on the market. Vincent Trochek is not a better player and could end up costing more than what Malkin would reportedly get.

He is a competitor who came back last season to be a PPG player. Yes, durability is a concern, but Geno has meant more to this organization than anyone not named Crosby or Lemieux.

None of us would have guessed Rusty, Tanger, and Geno would all be able to be signed at the rates they’ve signed for or been offered. Just give him the extra year and keep it rolling.

With Backstrom basically done, it actually makes sense, outside re-signing.

Yeah I know you’re trolling. I can only imagine where you’d be in life if you didn’t sit at home all day and troll comments on hockey buzz lol. I feel bad for your parents. Their 47 year old 350 pound son sitting in the basement wearing his cheeto stained redwings jersey drinking Mountain Dew hammering away at his keybord. Signing off and going to live my best life now. Cheers big ears.

And I could actually see Malkin doing that to play with Ovi.

I’m hoping management understands that if Malkin goes somewhere else, he may end up in The eastern conference to stay close to home. I really don’t want the pens playing Malkin 6 times a year if he goes to Washington or something.

Someone else mentioned the pens intentionally dragging this out to keep some teams from resigning their UFAs right away until Malkin is signed.

I think Malkin is resigned tomorrow evening or Tuesday though. I just can’t see them making this drastic of a change of letting Geno walk. Especially when they were arguably a mediocre goaltender away from making a run

It totally does, but aside from that, I imagine Giroux will be a target, no?

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the Caps and LTIR or whatever for next season. Right now they don't have enough money to sign some defensemen and 2 goalies unless they are all very very cheap. Gotta get something done on the goalie front before big game hunting centers.

Malkin will get more than $6 for 3 years anywhere else. How much more? Unsure. It is worth it to get $8 in Florida?

I think giving him 4 years with the actual salary as low as possible for the last year and dump him to the Coyotes, etc, if it comes to it.

Long story short, expiring him with Sid seems like a miss. If both stars disappear it's trickier to sell tickets. Malkin, even if he's not playing great, will put butts in seats for his "last season."

Go for 4 years

Life long pens fan here. I wish they would give him the respect he deserves and thank him for his time. Honor him and let him know we are just going in a different direction. Geno has been a wonderful player and person in the community for the city of Pittsburgh. The bottom line is that he does have a negative effect on the teams play. Like a pervious person wrote. He is not responsible defensively, takes in opportune penalties, and doesn’t bring it every night every shift like 87 and 58. This isn’t about a 1:1 player comparison. It’s about building a team.

I will reduce your long winded post down to a single question. Who are you replacing him with at 6 mill per year that makes the team better?

Just let Malkin walk. Let the Wings pay him 7 or 8 mil on a 3 year deal...the Pens will be better for it.

All cheetos lol doesn't matter. I'd put 3D cooler ranch doritos up against just about anything except Voodoo Chips.
