Because it will help extend his career/usefulness. It wont need to happen today or tomorrow, but as he moves into his new deal (hopefully), I think it will make a lot of sense.

I feel like getting a playmaking center, actual scoring wingers is what extends his career/usefulness.

Yeah I don't really get the desire to move Geno to wing, given we have a center who's already proven capable to play wing and Geno's fine as a center, putting up similar underlying numbers as Sid.
- j.boyd919

Geno is fine as a center but I would rather get someone who has more of a natural defensive instinct to center him and put him in a position to attack more often. For example, I suggested Toews as a trade candidate. I would much rather have Toews deep in our defensive zone looking to spring Malkin than have Malkin in the corner trying to spring Rackell.

That was the beauty of the HBK line. If the D would pinch, Kessel would break for a counter attack. If the D sat back they had an easier breakout.

I'd try something like this...

That's actually one of the better build outs I have seen. I have no idea what Strome and Vatrano will get but those seem like fair estimations.

Yeah, and if I'm off I don't think it's by much to the point they couldn't make it work.

Getting Toews only helps if Bedard is the goal.

2023 Stanley Cup Champions. Conn Smythe winner: Jonathon Toews.

In all seriousness, I know a lot of people think Toews is overrated but he is still a pretty decent player. Missed a full season and came back on a garbage Blackhawks team with all kinds of distractions and didn't have a great go at it. I think going to a team that can compete would revitalize him and I think it is certainly a fit in this perspective.

It's funny thinking that Rackell is a key piece but Toews is going to cause them to tank. To put it into perspective, Toews sat out an entire year and came back to put up 37 points in 71 games, Rackell put up 41 points in 70 games not so much of a difference.

Nobody is saying they should give up assets or sign Rakell at 5.25m

I know the process has been frustrating but if Geno comes in at 6 mil AAV, between the rust, Letang, and Malkin signings Hextall will have had a good offseason that can become really good by retaining Rakell at a good price and excellent if he can find a way to get another top 6 forward in under the cap.

I 100% agree with this. Think about it. Prior to anyone resigning most of us had Rust in the 6-7mil range, Letang at 8-9 mil, and well Malkin was all over the place from 5-7.1 mil. If they sign for 5 mil, 6 mil, and 6 mil that is fantastic! That leaves us w/ 9 million in cap space! Plus if we made a trade or 2 we potentially could have more space.

I never understood how this was not a more popular chip. It's now been relegated to the lower shelves at Wawa.
