The mistake of Molson was not to leave Bergevin manage the team alone…. It was to let him manage the team too long… He got hired, had a five year plan, delivered jack poop… but his contract got renewed…

Molson should have let him go and sign another person. This is the way it works in all other companies when you don’t deliver…

Bergevin never talked about a 5 year plan. I don't understand why that's always pinned on his head. That was a Gainey/Gauthier thing.

To be honest, Bergevin's plan, whatever it was at the time, was completely derailed by that 2013 shortened season where they surprised everybody and managed to make the playoffs. I believe he expected to draft in the top 10 again and build through that, but then expectations for this team got up and he had no other choice but to build a competitive team right away.

Damn, Nichushkin contract pretty crazy for a guy with only one good season.
