Again, I am not sure Kapanen is a Pen next season, QO or not.
Heinen and Rodrigues priced themselves out of here, and that’s ok. They gave us more than than we could have expected. - Victoro311
For sure. We're really gonna see a big amount of DOC in the bottom 6 and I'm good with that. Anyone think Pustinen can be a bottom 6 for us this year? |

IF the flames are now going to tear it down, the Pens should explore trading for Lindholm. I don’t know if we’d have enough to package (likely don’t) but he’d be a great Malkin replacement. |

Tkachuk lol. I feel bad for Calgary fans. Could you imagine if back when Sid and Geno were young and they both left the Pens? Sheesh |

SEA didn't QO Ryan Donato. Interesting trend this year with teams now qualifying good young players. Everyone is afraid of arb. |

Saw that one, don’t like him as much as the others but he’s probably closer to our price tag than the others |

The cap has a lot of GM's struggling.
It's crazy to think about, but if the pandemic never happened the cap would probably be around $90M.

I feel like GM's are doing this to set the market. I have to say I'm most surprised by AZ. They have to reach the cap floor and it's not exactly a place major FAs want to come play.

Sullivan made some comments earlier about giving some of the young guys a better look. I'm not confident he'll do that.
Pustinen didn't look out of place in his one game. Looks like he can handle the pace of the NHL. He's 23. Nylander is 24. Would be nice if one of these guys could come out of nowhere and steal a spot. |

I feel the same way, Sully just doesn't seem to want to play young guys. Even when they seem to deserve a longer look, they're often shuttled to the 4th line soon as a vet comes back. |

You see Burke's comments on Kapanen today. Could be smoke, but sounded like he expected him on the Pens next year. - Tojo.
Everyone dogs on Kapanen but he played hard and generated a lot of chances in the playoffs. I don't want $3.5M top 6 Kap but a $2M bottom 6 Kap would be fantastic.
I could see him getting traded but I'd want some decent value back. |

I think everyone got enamoured by Puustinen when he scored 8 points his first 7 games, but he really slowed down. He only had 9 points his last 2 months. In addition, he's a PP ace (7 of 20 goals were PP) and I doubt he gets that chance here. And he's not a great defensive player. He got a call so he might be on the short list, but there are other guys I like better
I'd look at Nylander before him for sure
And if you want a guy who improved during the year, it's Poulin. Those same last 2 months he had 16 points including 10 of his 16 goals. Actually came alive when they moved him to center and played him a lot with Nylander. He finished as our 1C and 5 points back from Puustinen for the team lead and is 2 years younger. I think he starts in the AHL, but could push his way up soon. (If Sully gives him or anyone else a fair shot) |

This crop of UFAs is pretty (frank)ing impressive. I just threw some names out with the type of team you could create.
Gaudreau-Malkin-Perron
Burakovsky-Kadri-Giroux
Copp-D.Strome-Palat
Milano-Donato-ZAR
Leddy-Klingberg
Zadorov-Manson
Kulak-Lybushkin

That lineup is a cup contender for sure. Not sure if they'd be cap compliant though... |

Hopefully we can take advantage. Also I am hoping we free up some cap space with a trade or 2. |

Yeah, there is going to be a lot of activity. A lot of teams are looking to move from tanking to competing and a lot of teams just trying to hold on.
Its not all about money for Gaudreau so I'm 100% expecting he goes to NJ.
There is speculation the Islanders are going to take a hard run at Kadri and they have the cap space.
Im curious what the flames are going to do. Even without Gaudreau, they are still a playoff team. Monahan has struggled and in the rumor mill... He'd be worth taking a shot on especially if a deal is centered around him and Zucker.
Giroux should go to Ottawa. I have no idea what he wants to do but he is from the area and would be a perfect compliment to that young group.
If Florida and Malkin are really a thing, I'd expect them to move Bennett or more drastically Ekblad. I would consider is in on either.
Same with LA and Danault.
At the end of the day though, I think Trochek is going to be the Hometown hero. And frankly I think he is an awesome fit.

I tried to text my friend to see if he had any scoop on Malkin. He has no clue but said you could cut the tension within the organization with a knife right now. |

Trochek would be my target. I'm still holding out hope for Geno, but I think that ship has sailed.
The good news is we have plenty of cap space to get at least one target tomorrow. If I were Hexy, I'd move just about any of the future.....including picks to dump a contract or two. 3 years. That's the Sid window. When we're bad, just be really bad.
