I said perhaps, man....perhaps...not to mention my responses to Feds saying that its not far fetched to me at all that they are battling for a wild card spot at end of season hahah....no delusional blind faith at play here at all. - MattStrat

Some guys here talk like they know everything.
Keep in mind Rags, Stars and Habs made the finals with worse teams.
We played better than the Rags but had a few injuries that Fd up the team.
I trully believe we have a good enough team to be Top 5/6 in the league with a chance to get another cup. |

Rags did not make the finals. Stars and Habs made the finals in very unique circumstances thanks to China. |

hahaha I don't feel there's much to cope with here...I generally feel that way about most things I have zero control over. Its been a great, very rewarding and successful 16 seasons as a Pens fan. If Geno walks and/or they miss playoffs, which I thought was a real possibility the past two seasons, anyway, its ok in the grand scheme of things, life and the universe.

I'm a realist, Feds. That's why them missing playoffs or battling for wild card this upcoming season isn't that far fetched to me. They're realistic scenarios, among others. That's why I don't think they are a top contender and haven't called them one for years now haha, I haven't since 2015/2016....the 2nd half of the 2015/2016 that is, after Sully took over. I didnt think they were getting out of 1st round in 2017... |

He’s not not involved but GMs are ultimately in charge of player personnel - Feds91Stammer
I know how the structure of an organization works. But also their GM came from PITT. Just saying, JR is influencing and Alvin was part of bringing in some of those players as well. |

Right but he’s not going to let JR hijack his time as a GM and risk never getting another opportunity for that role ever again. |

From Friedman:
“The biggest news Monday was Evgeni Malkin announcing he will test free agency. It appears as if talks broke down with the final formal proposals being the player asking for a three-year contract in the $7Ms, and the Penguins offering three years in the $6Ms. I do think a four-year, $6.1M idea was conceptually discussed, but Malkin, frustrated with the entire process, ended things before it went anywhere.” |

Not that it means much, and I know he's not the GM, but I think Burkie drafted Kadri for the Leafs...probably really likes and wants him for the Pens...

If you're wondering how this is playing in Pittsburgh, the local FAN sports station had a poll yesterday asking if the Pens were being unfair to Malkin
80% said no they weren't being unfair.
- Tojo.
The stooge media here has brainwashed most of the fans listening to be anti-Malkin as well.
This is the same media and same set of fans that continue to worship and pine for Marc Andre Fleury. Despite Murray outplaying him in 2016-17 AND Jarry being entrenched as a very good starter now.
The fans view Malkin as old and fragile because thats the line they have been fed by most of the local media. They dont consider that it may be impossible to replace the talent Malkin brings under the budget the Pens have.
*Be careful what you all ask for. Malkin will be gone--whether its this year or 3 or 4 later--and the team will have to rebuild and be terrible while doing that. But They will all be happy because Trochek the local boy replaced the aging (greedy) legend.

This seems like a plausible middle ground between the two camps of reporting. Malkin wanted a higher total contract value, whether it was an extra year or a higher cap hit. Hex/Burke didn’t want to budge off of 3x6 and maybe started negotiations later than they should have. When things stalled the FO started considering the extra year but Geno had had it. In the FO’s mind the four years were on the table because they were starting to consider it, in Geno’s mind the negotiations were already over so the four years weren’t offered in good faith. Makes sense how two camps of reporting would pop up if this is what happened. |

Some sources are back tracking and saying there is a possibility Malkin resigns. He is going to test the market first.
I don't think anyone knows what is going on with the situation. |

Signing a guy to a long term contract after a deep playoff and an outlier season makes me nervous as hell. |

Didn’t Rantanen play with Kadri? I’m just not a fan of possibly signing A 32 year old Kadri to a 6 year deal when he’s coming off a crazy statistical season. He was never close to being a ppg player until last season. At least with Malkin you know what to expect, even with 3rd/4th line wingers. |

Yeah, my impression was Kessel was the odd man out and Geno was a part of that.
I actually do think that Kessel could make a return. Zucker-Carter-Kessel could be a pretty damn good 3rd line.
