Nah I’ve always thought he’d resign. Especially now with Kessel coming back to play 4th line.

The weird line that sports fans cross in these type of situations is thinking they know everything that went on behind closed doors, and thinking they know what decisions human being should make for themselves because they're famous and wealthy.

It's just always so weird to me. Who is anyone to say what Malkin should do or not do? What is fair for him or not fair for him? Yeah, he said he'd take less. He never said how much.

- Rinosaur

I think that you are right, Geno should make whatever decision he wants. He shouldn't feel bad or have to explain himself. I just think he shouldn't have his camp releasing mistruths about the deal they are negotiating. Do whatever you want but the crying to the media about "they don't want me", "why dont they think Im worth more"... it's a bit sad and pathetic and I think it shows you a bit about his character.

Letang got dragged along too and he just kept his mouth shut and let his agent figure out a deal. Rust was massively underpaid for the last several seasons, went into his contract year risking injury and never once complained about not being extended and in the end he signed a discount deal.

Just wish Geno would handle it like an adult and not a whiny teenager.

I'm waiting for the next Ek rumor where Penguins are in on Petry and Burns so we don't have to worry about them coming to Pittsburgh

Petry’s good, just think we need to be focusing on other things.

Agreed. As mentioned earlier. He only makes sense if we traded Marino, but that would be a head scratcher because we need to get younger not older.

From the Trib:

• Burke declined to get into the details of contract negotiations between the team and Malkin’s representation, but he made one point clear about the term of a potential contract.

“We were unable to reach a deal,” he said. “We made an offer that we were comfortable with. There are stories out there that we never offered a four-year deal. That’s completely false. But as far as the mechanics and the amounts, we never talk about that stuff.”

So Burke himself says they offered a 4 year deal. This is really starting to look like either Geno's camp leaked that, or Rossi went into business for himself. LOL at everyone crying about how the Pens need to just give Malkin the 4th year.

I still hope Malkin returns. But if he leaves just because he wanted a better deal then the Pens were offering then I wish him nothing but the best and thanks for all the great years and memories.

The amounts and structures/mechanic could really be key here.

There were stories earlier about how while the Penguins were willing to go 3 or 4 years, a lot of the money was based on games played, etc. due to the team's worry about Malkin's injury history.

exactly. i think im of the mindset that if they truly put the four years for 6 per on the table and there are no contingencies etc and he still walks, its hard for me to blame the team. And I really want him back.

What if the 4 year deal was at a lower AAV or was incentive-based as opposed to the 3 year deal?

Been reading rumors of names we may potentially be connected to Trocheck leads the charge. Read an article which listed: Athanasiou, Deslauriers, Lemieux, Dzingel, Cousins, Milano, and Ryan Strome.

I wouldn't mind a few of these players in Penguins uniforms. I don't really want Deslauriers or Athanasiou. I wouldn't mind Milano and Strome though as I mentioned before. Put them on the 3rd line with Carter as a RW

If you're going after a Strome, go after Dylan Strome, not Ryan.

Milano would be interesting. He's a guy with one big year. Not sure I'd give him a big pay day.

It would still be a 4 year deal. 4 years at 6.1M was leaked. None of us here obviously know how much.

I think Milano and/or Balcers should be players the Pens pursue. I know both are LW, but I'd move McGinn out. These two could be this year's Heinens.

Marchment I’d like to see as depth lw. Adds some size and grit as well as skill.

I'd like him as well, but he's doing to cost a bit. Milano and Balcers probably sign for cheap one-year prove-it contracts.

Guerin starting to free up space for Malkin. I wonder what it would cost to get Dumba out of there and then we can move Marino for Miller.
