I hope he pivots now and signs Palat (only costs you money) and trades pieces for either Tarasenko or Miller.
Gives you multiple, dangerous lines.
Improves your Power Play
makes your top 6 much stronger.

would need to lose 2 nhl forwards in trades to add those but would be serious upgrade.

I imagine there's a few things in play here. I will say it over and over but taxes are a factor. Gaudreau looked at possibly losing up to 20% in state taxes alone with NY.
I'm not sure how players look at the org after Trotz's firing but I can't imagine CBJ would be a better fit for winning, so my guess is it was all about the $$$

Taxes are not an issue for the Rangers. Doubt Trotz's firing had any bearing at all.
- ses111

Well not all players are the same. For some the allure of playing in Manhattan and MSG is a thing. If it's a player who is financially motivated, NYC adds an additional brutal tax to the state rate. So while we've seen some sign there, there's no telling how many have rejected them

Couple of guys on that roster that intrigue me are Bjorkstrand and Roslovic and, to a lesser extent, Jake Bean. I mean, they have to get rid of some player(s), don’t they?

What's annoying is they then move to other states and vote for the same type politicians thus f'ng up those areas as well.

OMG 100%. I have a home in Fl I live in at winter time. ( I’m an old geezer snow bird ) and the Floridians are pissed exactly because of this!

Yes they do.
They need to be cap compliant by the first day of the season. They can be 10% over up until then.

This would be the perfect scenario.

Signing Barzal to an extension if a must. They cannot let him hit the market.

Haha
I've been telling people this for ages now. Since the early 2000s. Look, if you are going to get a $10m contract and face over 9%in state taxes as well with being taxed on 41 extra games, then face the fed taxes as well, that $10mm can suddenly turn into like $5m. Meanwhile in Ohio it may be more like $7mm. I think for more than a few, that's a serious factor

Playing in Manhattan and MSG seem to be a huge thing. Rangers probably regret a number of players they sign. It's still very interesting to me Neil Smith in a month was able to sign better quality UFA's. Maybe the players thought he still worked for the Rangers?

Not to mention most players with families don’t live and don’t want to bring up their families in Manhattan. Especially now.

Yeah sure but if that were the case why don’t they all go to Dallas or Florida? I’m sure there were a lot of factors that went into his decision but I don’t think this was a major one.

Yeah, NC has been under seige for years too. I have a beach house in VA that has been overrun by Washingtonians and New Yorkers. The locals have largely sold and ran to get away from them and their political demands. The area has completely changed since

I agree that there are a ton of potential factors but like any job offer, money tends to be a big one.

Only a matter of time till it’s a cess pool. It’s incredible what’s going on in Florida and how the demographic is changing. I find it incredible that so many people voted for a candidate in the last election there that ran on imposing a state income tax. He then got caught with meth and a male prostitute soon after losing the election

Sure of course but after a while it doesn’t matter what the reasons are. They’re just speculated excuses. Here we are.

I Don’t know many people that leave one job and uproot their family for less money do you?
They wouldn’t do that for a job in the next town let alone half way across the continent!
Money and net money is always a factor.

Let us remember that Marion Barry got REELECTED in DC after getting caught with crack and prostitutes.

Forgot about that. He had a D next to his name so that’s all that matters to the gluttons for punishment. Another one that ran on racism and being framed

Right. And the fact that he turned down NJ while they reportedly offered more money makes me think that the tax factor 'may' have been impactful.

On the brightside, we have a better d corps now, arguably the best goaltending tandem in the NHL and some decent forwards. All the while we have cash in hand. We're still okay IMO.
