Out of what’s left, Nino Niederreiter could work on Barzal’s wing. He’s good for 20-25 goals/yr, good defensively and forechecks well
OH boy.. B.D. is not pushing what I was joking about for a few days now.. we really are going to get Nino and Greene.. aren't we? |

While it's far from my ideal choice, building out the blueline now with a very-affordable Girard ($5M for the next 5 seasons) might not be the worst approach. Rock solid in net, very strong on the blueline....the rest TBD. I'd rather pay a reasonable price for a really good blueline then pay an inflated price for just a decent forward core - eichiefs9
I think hoping one of bellows(probably not) or Wahlstrom steps up this season to provide some low cost offense while building up the blue line is not a bad idea. I say that KNOWING we need help in our top 6 though. Find a way to dump Bailey in season and target a player by the deadline if we’re within reach of the playoffs. I really want to add up front just not sure how we make that happen without screwing ourselves in the process? |

I'm fine with it if young players like Wally get a fair shot. I have no patience anymore for the quick benching of young players and just relying on the vets.

I guess we'll find out. Still plenty of offseason to go and it's entirely possible Lou has a trick or two up his sleeve. I just hope it doesn't include mortgaging the future for a short-term fix. Otherwise there will be another long, dark rebuilding period. |

Pretty much my thoughts on it as well. JT Miller would be a great add but for us he’s not worth what it would cost to get him because we don’t have an over abundance of assets. I don’t think we get tarasenko without including next years first as well. We’re not in the position to do that imo. I feel we really need to add up front but we’ve kind of painted ourselves into a corner with some bad contracts over the years and dumped a lot of assets in the process which spread is thin. Couple that with having to find a home for Beau and or Bailey to take on anyone else we’re in a tough spot. - Cptmjl
I'd have to think in order to get Tarasenko you'd be looking at Beau, Wally, next years first and probably a second (maybe 2) or a couple thirds. |

If you want him you're going to pay. I'm not saying that's what I'd pay, but he isn't going to come cheap. He'll probably be cheaper at the deadline. Maybe a top 6 and a pick. Who knows. He's said he wants out but if St. Louis backs up the dump truck full of cash, he might want to stay. |

first thing I thought of too... Did he win one as a bench coach that I missed somewhere along the way? - niteislander
I know he coached for a minute while GM. Does that count as 2 cups? |

He is a UFA next summer.. u don't give away one of your best young players/prospects in Whally, one of your top 6 wings in Beau who is only 25, AND a first.. That is worse than Millbury territory. |

I would imagine, despite the rumors that St Louis will not trade Taresenko at this stage. They're $1m below the cap right now and have only one RFA to sign (Mikkola). It's likely they'll wait until the trade deadline to make any moves |

I know he's a UFA next summer. The Blues are going to want a return. What are you giving for him right now then? The Blues aren't just going to give him away like Vegas did Patches. |

I'd agree with that. I don't want to throw away a bunch of picks and players for a guy we might not be able to sign after the season. Tank is 30 and at $7.5m this year. He's going to want a raise and probably 7 years. After this season Barzy and Wally are RFA's and Mayfield is a UFA. So is Parise, but he'll probably retire or get another 1 year deal. You have to move out some salary to try to re-sign, Barzy and Tank. |

Mayfield is a goner after this season no matter what. Priority will be on re-signing Barzal and they're going to need every penny for that. If they're out of the playoffs come trade deadline time then I would expect Mayfield to be a pretty sought-after defenseman. He's dirt cheap and can fit any team's cap situation and is obviously a pending UFA and a perfect rental for the playoffs.
In that (terrible) scenario, Varly would likely be a strong candidate to get moved as well. Parise as a depth player on a contender also. |

Unless the isles have some success this coming season, I can see Barzal walking. They have done zero these past few years to improve that #1 line when a TON of players got moved.
