$11 mil a year is a lot. He’s obviously a great player but a lot of Toronto fans seem to not be in love with the guy. - potvin05
I think a lot of Toronto fans aren’t in love with a lot about the Leafs. If they were I would think something is wrong with them. Marner now is great but he may be even better out of that pressure cooker. It would probably take more then that offer schwein threw up there. If they would take that I would do it without even thinking twice about it. Raty is an unknown along with where we’re picking in next years draft. Im not about mortgaging our future at this point and trading first rd picks but Marner at 25 yrs old is worth it imo.
Edit; I’ll also say I’m not in love with his contract but at this point if we have to pay a million more then a player like him is worth I don’t care. Rather spend it on a player like that then paying some middle six player too much…

That was the point of my offer. If you are going to pay now or over pay now. Do it for a known asset.

Are you kidding? They're already planning the parade for next year. For some reason they think that by making a lateral move (if not worse) in goal and trotting out the same D-corp, they can win the cup. Now, they do have a lot of offensive firepower up front. Again. But all that scoring hasn't gotten them past the first round yet. Next year MAY be different, but we'll see. I do think that if they had gotten past the Bolts, they would have made the finals. Not sure they beat the Avs though.
I kind of feel like once Shane Wright dropped like that to 4th overall if I was a Isles GM I would have moved heaven and earth to get that pick from Seattle. That kid was talked about for almost as long as Bedard and all the sudden going into the draft he has an attitude problem? He could easily become one of top players in league and at worst would be very good player.

I don't recall seeing anyone say he had any sort of attitude problem.
He dropped for a few reasons. His production didn't quite match the kind of output you'd expect from an exceptional player status kid and a "sure-thing" #1 overall pick. I happen to agree that he still will be a very good player and think that losing a lot of development time to Covid shutdowns contributed a lot to whatever perceived issues there were. And the other reasons were simply that the Devils have an abundance of young, talented centers and the Coyotes were in love with Cooley.
I do think the Devils made a giant mistake passing on Wright for that defenseman. Worst case scenario they could've flipped Wright somewhere for a good NHL defenseman, instead of waiting years for their pick to develop and maybe/maybe not be any good.

I mean.. I get the Habs taking who they took (Juraj) .. I don't agree with it, but I get it. For him to fall to 4th though? I watch a ton of US hockey and feel like I know a lot about US players... I think Logan Cooley will be a good NHL player. How Arizona took him instead of Shane Wright though is nuts. ... Wright could be (and in my opinion will be) one of best players in league.

I don't disagree at all that it was silly for Wright to fall to four. There is definitely some risk there though.
I also don't think that he is even remotely close to as talented as Bedard. Bedard is going to be the closest thing we've gotten out of the draft in quite awhile that will likely be a McDavid/Matthews-level player.
Thought he played pretty well once he was in tune with the system and the whole team started playing. He certainly didn’t hurt Dobson’s progress and might have even helped it. - nyisles7
No, he wasn’t altogether terrible once the team got its poop together. Nor will I deny that Dobson likely benefited from his presence.
That said, his signing had more to do with a lack of viable alternatives, rather than Chara’s then current level of play. And (through no fault of his own, dude is (frank)ing ancient) he wasn’t able to play up to the level needed by the organization.

In case we stink this season, we need to be prepared with a slogan...... "Fall hard for Bedard"? "Retard for Bedard"?

He wasn’t as bad as Aho in my opinion but hopefully the trade for Romanov really solidifies our top 4 which I think it will.
That said we didn’t get JG so let’s just call the season a total loss and piss and moan like only Islanders fans can.
You want to trade Raty AND a 1st for a guy with his contract?? - potvin05
He’s not worth 11 million without the cap freeze let alone with it. Have to remember the cap is not moving much in the next 3 or 4 years until the NHLPA debt is payed

Not even close. Yes, he started the season as a traffic cone, but he got much better as the season wore on, as he got used to Barry's system and played himself into shape. He finished the season +8, 2nd best on the team, trailing only Pelech. While he could not replace a puck-moving d-man like Leddy, he was the most physical presence around the crease the Isles have had in many years.
