Eric Francis today on 101 ESPN in St. Louis said that he expects a possible Matthew Tkachuk trade to be wrapped up within the week. He said it was clear to him the two are parting ways.
Wow.
I would assume that Tarasenko would be part of the haul going the other way, if this turns out to be true |

Unless the market for Kadri is shrinking and we can get him at a fair price...I'd just leave things, more or less, the way they are for now.
Maybe they can find a way to add another d-man or can sign someone like Milano or Sam Steel on the cheap...but other than that I don't see a lot still out there that makes sense. - eichiefs9[/quote
Lou should be looking for young player under the age of 27. Rumors are out there that Girard and possibly Sandin from Toronto might be available. I like Milano and Steele you can get on the cheap and he’s only 24. He might just need a fresh start. Also, Czernik signed with Detroit, so they will need some depth when injuries strike.

If they are even able to trade for Girard, they'll have to move money out to fit his $5M cap hit |

I would love Meier as well but we all know its not gonna happen. Lou loves this group I was told by the experts. Don't expect the roster to change for the next year at least. I mean Lou missed out on JG who didn't want to come here. This season is over.

They can’t use the Coliseum as a crutch anymore. They have a beautiful arena, excellent training facilities, close to NYC and the area is nice a little outside Elmont. Trotz and Butchie said they didn’t know how nice LI was until they moved there. So they must be doing something wrong. IMO |

Tarasenko and picks?
Could be an opportunity for a 3 way trade perhaps. If the Flames move Tkachuk, then maybe they’d blow it up and trade Tarasenko with coin retained for a 1st? |

Girard seems to me a little expensive. I’m sure there cheaper options out there. |

He's an excellent puck mover. Not huge point producer but he moves the puck up the ice better than most defensemen. $5M is a very fair price for him.
If they could dump Bailey on the Ducks or somewhere similar...that's an even money swap. |

I'll throw out the same blind prediction I just tossed at Jimbo in the Rangers thread:
2023 1st rounder, Perunovich, Neighbors, Tarasenko |

Well now a lot of people are going to want out if Gaudreau and then Tkachuk are gone |

Fair offer.
Oh I hope the Flames blow it up. The resulting poop storm will be wonderful. |

I will say that I assume the 1st rounder will be top-2 protected, on the way-outside chance that the Blues implode and have a shot at Bedard or Michkov.
Also -- the kicker there is that the Flames can turn around and flip Tarasenko at the deadline as a pure rental. They could ultimately end up getting two 1st rounders, Perunovich, Neighbors, and more picks/prospects for Tkachuk which would....still be bad but a hell of a lot better than nothing |

I mean...I honestly don't think the Isles can afford to pay what it'd even cost to get him. Not with all the competition they'd have around the league.
Not only that, but they'd have to clear enough cap space to accommodate extensions for Tkachuk AND Barzal and make sure there's enough left over to cover Sorokin the following year. And a backup goaltender. The amount of moving parts there would be to facilitate that deal and not handicap the team going forward would be massive.
I mean I'm just shooting from the hip here, but I have to imagine a package that would even keep Calgary on the phone would have to start with something like a 2023 1st, Beauvillier, Raty, Salo and maybe another high pick or something.
Then we'd, at the bare minimum, have to move out Bailey for the last year of his deal. They might also have to find a way to (at some point) move Pageau, who now has a 16-team no-trade list as of the 1st of this month. Or maybe Palmieri the summer after next, but that'd be a much more difficult deal to make work.
I don't even know if that'd be enough money to cover Tkachuk/Barzal/Sorokin over the following two offseasons - eichiefs9
If this is all true...Then why would anyone be upset we did not get Johnny hockey??? Because based on this we could not afford him...

Lou is going to die on the proverbial hill for these forwards. I agree with you on Girard. |

I’d rather they flip Tarasenko to us immediately. |

Maybe Ledecky and Malkin can hire Neil Smith just to talk to the FA's?

Cannot imagine Tarasenko wants to go to Calgary no offense.

Anyone but Lou… - kear20
Lou is an all time great GM but he has had trouble with landing quality UFA's. Neil signing Sillinger, Witt, and Poti in 30 days on the job has been better than most UFA's signed in years by the Islanders. Lou has got to relax some of the rules. Right or wrong it's 2022 and players are different. |

This kind of stuff is unacceptable on a hockey forum. |
