What politics are you referring to?
Admittedly I’m from an uber rural area of northern Alberta, and have never had need to cross borders. So I’m undoubtably insulated from the issues to which you refer. - Wildschwein
Those are the ones I am talking about... if you searched at all for stories I am sure you would find it rather quickly.

And they don’t have to give away players so that’s a plus no? - nyisles7
One would think so. |

Not sure that your examples make your point. For example, if Tampa had to give away McDonagh because they're over the cap, isn't that a bad thing? - JohnScammo
my point was the last line.

Wasn’t there a video from Whitney about his 12 hour airport experience? Trudeau is a real beauty |

Yes.. which was the point.. we didn't sign JG b/c our current GM refuses to Over pay anyone.. including our own UFA's when they were available. All of those guys could have gotten more on open mkt.. but took less to stick around. |

You think JG and Tkachuck might have left Calgary Because of the high taxes? His list doesn’t include NY and Ca. Interesting? |

It’s tough if you are not willing to overpay for star talent. Some players you have to pay up. You can be tougher with players like Bailey. If the Isles money is competitive than they have bigger issues getting rejected. |

If I’m in the NHL there’s no way I’d sign with a Canadian team. The mandates are maniacal. Taxes and dollar valuation aside, I watched the Canadian government abuse power. The fact that teams were flying into Buffalo to cross the border (driving over didn’t require quarantine) is reason enough. |

I think it’s high time the isles end the Bailey chapter and use that money elsewhere. He’s got a lot to offer a contending team, but I’d rather see them use that money on a fresh set of legs. |

No Lou just sucks ass and missed on JG when he really wanted to come here.
That said My point is if you’re not aware of your cap (especially when it’s not increasing as it hasn’t and won’t significantly for the next 3 years) you will have to eat salary, trade assets or give away players to become Cap compliant.
Again because of the cap freeze and debt of the NHLPA the cap is more of a factor because there’s no relief with a considerable increase in the next few years. |

Actually a very good point.. mentions Vegas, Florida, Nashville, and Dallas.. all have Zero state income Tax. not sure what St. Louis.. but doubt it's high.

It’s worth losing a Bailey or similar player if you can add a star like JG. Teams should have young players they can rely on if they need to replace a player or two. |

True but what’s the difference the money is still tied up in 12th & 13th forwards whether they punch faces or not. You don’t save money on the cap if he is good at face offs instead of fighting 🖕🤣 - Vukota
Just threw in the face puncher thing cuz I know you like’em |

$1 million or $1.5 million are not an issue.. IF you need room u can waive them and YES they would get picked up if you did waive them.. They do have value in a line up whether u think so or not... Ask Carolina who got pushed around by a bigger team who knocked them out of the playoffs... the Rangers were not the better team in that series.. they were the tougher team. Trouba head hunting all the skill players and Canes having no one to do anything about it was a huge factor in that series.
Having a 4th line with guys that can actually play big minutes are why this team was a short handed goal when those guys WEREN"T on the ice away from a cup final.
YOu want to complain about our salaries? who makes too much on this team? No one is making 10, 11, 12, or 13 mill a year. the ones that are high are movable. - niteislander
This coming to from the guy that said we have no salary cap issues and we could trade Bailey at will. We just most likely couldn’t move our salary to sign a FA. Nobody is taking on Matt martins contract and most likely not Johnston either. Also, Matt Martin is not good. He can longer play “big minutes”. |
