What do you think the issue is then? Why don’t they sign here? There is a legitimate issue here with UFAs.
- potvin05

You have to look at how aggressive the organization is and with Lou it's hard to even know. Ownership has to ask these questions and investigate. Fans have no idea what goes on behind the scenes and we can only speculate.

You just want to talk about Laine?

Cpts edit: go back and read the posts. By year 4, when he’s 33, this contract is gonna be iffy for sure. And, yes, physicality plays a role. I already said I would have liked to have him but that term is loooong. I’d rather find a guy in his mid-20s to give a long contract to. And, not JT Miller either.

I would give Laine that money and term in a heartbeat.

Only problem I have with Laine is he doesn’t show up every night.

Well it’s rather smart of Lou keeping things close to his vest along with the rest of the organization going back to the Snow days. It helps with other things but it also absolves them of criticism.

Wouldn’t mind having a lose cannon on our team

Bottom line is he’s going to get paid and I’m reluctant to do it.

If Kadri plays smart it's a good thing.

I have no issues paying talent like JG and the like. The problem is a lot of these 7 year contracts are ridiculous. 7 years for Trochek as an example.

The problem was around before Lou, that’s what I was talking about. I don’t question his effort really, there’s a perception amongst opposing players with signing here and there has been for decades.

He’s still a kid. He’s a kid who can score though.

My biggest point is being ignored, lol. We obviously have to trade to get a high caliber player. It’s the sad truth.

We’ll most likely never know the story but I’ll say if it was over 800 grand that is about as pathetic as it gets. Have to be able to sell the team to a free agent better then that. Especially one of that caliber. Columbus? Come on.

This I don’t disagree with at all. I just want to know if it’s Lou or if it’s the Islanders. Something we’ll probably never know.

This is not about bashing Lou but he is in charge now and we keep missing out on quality FA's. Just like we cannot live on the 4 Cups forever, we need to deal with the here and now. Older type players seem to like it here but the younger high quality players like JG shy away from signing here.

I imagine there's a few things in play here. I will say it over and over but taxes are a factor. Gaudreau looked at possibly losing up to 20% in state taxes alone with NY.
I'm not sure how players look at the org after Trotz's firing but I can't imagine CBJ would be a better fit for winning, so my guess is it was all about the $$$

Well You maybe right. What do you think? It’s time Lou gets canned and we get a young progressive analytic driven type younger GM like Kyle Dubas?

Well regular folks are fleeing because of the taxes here for sure so it’s not that far fetched.
I agree he made this move for the money not the Cup.

NY is one of the only states that taxes players for away games, all the while having the second highest jock tax in the country

Taxes are not an issue for the Rangers. Doubt Trotz's firing had any bearing at all.

Yes Sir and that’s a great point.
If you got safety, cleanliness and pot holes that don’t swallow your car on the highways then you might not mind paying the ridiculous taxes. Joke really but that’s why people are leaving here like crazy. Can you blame them?

What's annoying is they then move to other states and vote for the same type politicians thus f'ng up those areas as well.
