He’ll be looking for a 7 year contract which will take him until he’s 38. With the kind of game he plays that’s not going to end well.
- Cptmjl

Not end well at all. I get the longer contracts for players like JT, JG, and Panarin but many of these long contracts for players are just horrible.

Yeah but the article DID say that NJ and the Rags showed interest. I think St. Louis is the front-runner.
A very quick search of Missouri income tax rates shows 5.4%.

- Isleshockeyman

Well that’s pretty bold of you when it’s his home town also think everyone will show interest but he listed non income tax states and Missouri his home town.

So 37% fed rate plus 5.4% state is 42.5% total in the US.
In Canada ( British Columbia it’s about 55% when all is said and done.
So quick math that’s a difference of 12.5% on a let’s say 7 year x 10 Mil contract. That’s a $8,750,000 difference.
I would say that would make me think about a change. Now take it one step further if he signs with one of the other 4 teams on his list with 0 income tax that’s another $3,780,000 tax savings to push it to $12,530,000.
Now I know you and Cpt don’t seem to think that’s a lot of money or make a difference but you guys just might have a heck of a lot more than most. Just sayin’

From an actual credible source:

Matthew Tkachuk has notified the Calgary Flames that he won’t be re-signing with the club, multiple sources tell The Athletic, making a trade of the 24-year-old All-Star forward likely to happen soon.

Tkachuk has not officially asked for a trade, but the fact that the restricted free agent is unwilling to make a long-term commitment to Calgary would be the driving force behind the decision to move him now.

In addition to making the Flames aware that he won’t be re-signing with the organization that picked him at No. 6 in the 2016 NHL Draft, Tkachuk has supplied them with a list of teams with whom he would agree to a long-term contract, according to multiple sources. Tkachuk does have some power over where he might land, given that teams likely won't want to pay as large of a trade price for him as a rental.

One source familiar with Tkachuk’s list said that St. Louis, Vegas, Florida, Nashville and Dallas are options. New Jersey and the New York Rangers are also among the other teams that have expressed interest in the past.

At the end of the day, if Lou cannot get it done and the Isles struggle out of the gate, I can definitely see the chants returning: "SNOW, err, LOU MUST GO!"

I mean, it will probably be tough to hear it on the telecast as there will only be 7k people in the building, but one of them will be Ledecky, so he will get the message.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on a second there, buddy. Don't go lumping me into the whole tax argument. I bolded the very quick part to emphasize that it was just that. a very quick search. Meaning that if someone else dove deeper into it (or was an accountant) and came up with different or more accurate information, then fine. It was more replying to someone that said they didn't know what the Missouri tax rate was. I am in no way saying that paying state tax is better than paying no tax.

Exactly. I'm sure the Lightning "have interest" in Tkachuk, but there's no way they could fit him in under the cap. Not without trading major salary, anyway.

I thought clutterbuck was probably the most effective of the three last season but yeah.
- Cptmjl[/quoIf they’re so enamored with Johnston they should let him play a regular role.te]

One of the things they love about Johnston is he is OK getting healthy scratched most games wtihout a complaint.. and if they are playing a team with a Goon or someone on 4th line gets hurt he can come in an be effective. He's making close to minimum and is one of toughest guys in league.

I just don’t see this as a reason to sign a redundant player. Also, what’s the point of Matt Martin?

These are the comments on here that truly amaze me... Do you guys actually watch the games? Clutterbuck kills penalties, hits constantly, blocks shots, draws penalties, never fails to get the puck out of his D-zone and always gets it deep into the other team's O-zone. They guy is one of the best 2 ways players on this team... so Is Casey.

How many times a game do you complain about something Clutterbuck did? Ever? You ever complain about a dumb Back pass to no one that ends up in your net? You ever see him turn the puck over in the neutral zone? Has he ever scored in his own net? The guy is usually close to leading the league in hits every year and rarely ends up in the box. He had 10 PIM last year in 59 games.... WTF is it he does that you hate so much? Does everyone on the team have to score 30 goals for you to see value in their play.

Our 4th line is one of the best in the league every year. they play 12 minutes a game and have a +/- around 0 every year. They are certainly worth what they are getting paid...

The 4th line should be as cheap as possible. Isles should have players from Bridge that can take over the 4th line by now. The 4th line had their run and they have a lot of millage because the style they play. We need to keep them together forever? The more you spend on the 4th line the less you have to spend on the top 6.

I believe you and I may have different definitions for what constitutes a two way player I say this thinking cal played ok last season. I just don’t see him as a 1.75 million player for a team that needs space. If your answer is, “well he wouldn’t have signed with us” I say so be it.
