If the Isles sign Kadri and trade for Tarasenko...Then I guess US me included in the Lou bashing would have to eat a little crow.

I would then say, "Pass the hot sauce."

They would have to ship out a lot of salary to make that happen. Anything is possible. Lameriello is definitely in on Kadri you have to figure there may be a contract in place and he’s trying to find a way to get rid of Bailey and or Beau. Even if he got rid of both of them between signing Kadri and trading for tarasenko he’d still have to move more salary out factoring in Dobson and Barzal’s future contracts being that we only have 11 million in space right now…

I think it’s interesting to note Kadri not being announced is VERYYY Lou like. How often does a UFA coming off a cup win, linger in the free agency market? Kadri and Tarasenko makes this team contenders.

AS much as I'd like to believe it I find it very hard to believe that something like that could be kept under wraps this long. I know Lou wouldn't say anything but between Kadri's camp and all the other teams that are probably trying to negotiate, how could there possibly be no talk?

If he wants to sign with the islanders it’s possible imo. They know Lou don’t play.

I mean it happened last year with Parise. Crickets for weeks, and then we found out he was an Islander.
It makes sense if he’s really looking to make a trade for the top line. He’d have to unload some contracts….so perhaps he’s trying pull the trigger on a trade before announcing the signing so he’s not being squeezed. 🤷🏻‍♂️

That has certainly been Lou's MO. He's a poker player. He never reveals his hand until he HAS to.

Of course, it's also possible that Kadri's agent is quietly playing a few teams against each other, trying to maximize the contract. Anything is possible.

He's being squeezed either way. The Islanders cap situation is common knowledge. As soon as he starts talking trade involving one of his high cap hit guys other teams are going to know what's up.

I highly doubt we see Tarasenko traded until the deadline this coming season unless someone overpays

Now that Tkachuk is in Florida you may be right but I think it also depends on how much of a stink tarasenko makes. He has been a good soldier up to this point but has made it known he wants out. Have to wonder how much longer that lasts…

I don’t disagree, but he definitely has the elite skill Barzal needs

Kadri's a good player and it'd definitely add some excitement and buzz if the Isles somehow landed him, but really I'm not sure he's the best target as center's not exactly a position of need. I don't like the idea of moving one of the current four to the wing since I think they're all best suited as centers. Also, even if they did move one of them to wing, that still wouldn't give them the type of scoring winger they've desperately needed forever.

It would at least add a solid weapon to the offense, so I guess they could just go for it and figure out how to make it work. And, probably, I'm giving too much thought to something that isn't happening

Well, Ek says it's just waiting on a side trade.

At the risk of spending too much time on something that is far from inevitable, would you consider moving Barzal to wing and having Kadri center that line? Barzal would have fewer defensive responsibilities as a wing and could focus more on offense. I think Kadri would be better on faceoffs too. Of course, I do agree with you that Barzal would not turn into "the kind of scoring winger they've desperately needed forever."

It's late July. We're allowed to focus on the irrelevant.

I feel like adding Kadri has the same potential effect that Palmieri has had. Solid two way player but doesn’t solve the need for an elite goal scorer. If he is the only forward we add and we move a Bailey and/or Beau, I’m not sure how much better, if at all, it makes us.

I know Lou made some comment about goaltending but I do wonder if he try’s to shed Varly’s contract too. I’m not sure who is in need of a goalie at this point, or who is available as a backup, but $5M for your backup is quite expensive.

Moving Varly and Bailey sheds 10 million….I’m all for it if it addresses the top line.

We’d still need to sign a back up. Brian Elliott has a $900K cap hit, by comparison. Greiss signed for $1.25M I believe with Blues. Both capable goalies with a team in front of them.

Goalies are always needed and I feel like this team is ready for Sorokin to take the spot. Paying 5 million for a back up isn’t the best money spent. Somehow Lou needs to parlay that asset into scoring.

I like Kadri. I think this team lacks a Kadri like player(clutterbuck is the closest thing we have to him) especially in the top 6. I think he would be a positive add. With that said I’m a little apprehensive with what he’s going to get. He’ll be 32 in October. I assume he’s looking for a seven year contract or a shortened five yr that pays him top dollar. The only thing that makes that worth it(unless we get him for a steal which I doubt) is if we win a cup this year or next. Does Kadri make us a legit cup contender? I’m not sure.

I agree, although I’m not sure what the market would be like for Varley at this point after this past season. He wasn’t all that sharp. Maybe an in season move after getting his numbers up, but who knows about anything Lou is thinking.

I like Kadri, but as I mentioned earlier, not sure he gets us to the next level, especially after losing a player two to create the space needed. With that said, I have a feeling he’s one of Lou’s targets.
