To me this team lacks forechecking ability, so speed and tenacity is needed first and foremost. Skill is wasted if you can't take the puck away form the opponent.
Watching teams like Tampa/Colorado play, they put a ton of pressure on teams when they try to move the puck out of their own zone. Vegas was also great at that the year they made the SCF - Nucker101
Sure, but you have to start building that diversity into the lineup. You will never have the best player at every position, but that doesn’t mean you should forego a gritty guy because he isn’t an elite 4th liner, or two way 3rd liner, etc.
Build the style of roster you want, then chip away at improving the spots you can.
I don't think where the nucks are at can be hinged on record after boudreau. I like the guy as much or more than the rest, but winning when there is no pressure (until maybe the end), opponents taking you lightly and the boost that traditionally follows with a new coach should all be considered in those inflated numbers. If we win at that pace next year, I'd gladly and hopefully eat my words.
Plus Demko ... we were maybe a .500 team without him. - Sayros

Id love to see Garland out and Copp in at about the same money. Bring back what you can and replace him with a bit better defensive/checking specialist with some grit.

Sure, exactly what I’m talking about. - 1970vintage
I just think you also cant bring in useless bucket heads tgat play LD/LW both so poorly that they get a shift every few games. Id rather have a guy that can score a bit, Wilson as example

John Wilson? Bo Wilson?
If you’re talking about Tom Wilson, duh, every team want him.
My point is you will never build a Stanley cup winning team on your first attempt (in one year). So even if you don’t have the elite guy in every position, say the “Tom Wilson” spot, that doesn’t mean you should plug Nils Höglander into that spot because he’s a “better scorer” than Jonah Gadjovic. The job isn’t to score goals, but goals are welcome. THEN over time you work to upgrade Jonah Gadjovic to Zach MacEwan to Andrew Copp to Tom Wilson.

Something the Motte Lammikko Highmore line was pretty good at under BB... the entire line is gone so if it was needed when that line was here... holy (frank) are they barren of it now.... I mean they were the majority of the Canucks grit and tenacity.... the best forecheckers...

Id rather have skill than a sloppy plug whi gets scored on but plays physical. Copp would be great, i wouldnt be looking to give a job to a forwadd who doesnt score. The job of every forward is to score and defend. Of they do one of those two well and bring physicality, thats a great bonus

Well, you’re wrong. Because when the guys who “score” stop scoring, then they bring nothing. The whole point of “roll players” is that they fill a role. If you have no roles, you get 20 guys doing their own thing.

Again, they played so bad at the start, they got a coach fired (even if that coach was an idiot) and had to play that well and STILL only ended up where everyone expected them to before the season started. Until they get rid of the Benning chaff like Myers, OEL, Miller, Garland and Pearson, all they'll ever be is a bubble team that relies too much on goaltending and special teams. That's not a recipe for long-term success. - DariusKnight
OEL makes 1m more than he should, but is every bit a #3 at worst defenseman. Myers has been solid, as well as Garland and Pearson. Miller was amazing for us.

doesn't work that way, you can't bring back the same core.
Miller is deteriorating lucky to get to 50pts, OEL, Myers and Hughes are terrible at defence and overrated by the slurpers, the rest of the defence should be AHL/ECHL talent. Boeser, Pettersson, Horvat, Garland, Hoglander, Podkolzin are lucky to be on a good teams 4th line.
Need to trade everyone, need to do it yesterday because you know all the good offers were soo last week.
JR is senile, Allvin is Benning 2.0, soft muffin, country club team that didn't deserve the 32-15-10 run with Boudreau should blow it up.
These are the comments in here and I get called a trolling ref, can't make this stuff up, it just falls into my lap.

Agree to disagree. I look at teams like tampa and avs, the whole team plays with one identity. I wouldnt describe either as a team with a bunch of role players, rather two teams deep with quality defenders and scorers. Depth is the key.
