What’s this from? I’m excited to see the kid. Maybe we paid a bit much? Don’t care.
- CanuckDon

UFA is always 10-20% more expensive. From what I’m reading we’re going to be expecting 20+ goals and likely to be disappointed. Will enjoy his hustle and tenacity though.

Good thing Canucks have some capspace cleared up. Maybe they can try take advantage of it.
- Reubenkincade

Would you want to acquire a Smurf, or a plug with Cup experience or a Richard?

Based on contract and performance the Canucks definitely are not in a position to sell high.

And yet, if Benning was still here and had made these moves, you'd be slurping it up harder than anyone else

Don’t trust Nucker’s ability to assess talent. He’s the guy that jizzed his pants when Benning made the Nate Schmidt trade.

The most beautiful part of the entire Schmidt blunder… Benning traded him to Winnipeg for a 2022 3rd round pick 10 months after Benning traded a 2022 third-round pick to acquire Schmidt.

So we moved down the draft from the 79th position to 80th. only Benning could achieve that level of incompetence.

A year later, and paid out $6m in salary, and lost his most valuable RHD for nothing that would have cost him $4ish m. Good intention, bad result.

If I was the Canuck GM and I couldn’t work out an extension for Miller before his final season starts, his ass would be gone.

The canucks will be a bubble team again this coming season. They can’t trade Miller if they are competing for a playoff spot at the deadline. Optically, that would look terrible. So it’s a summer trade or you let Miller walk for nothing.

Pretty much. Trade him before the season starts. I'm sure some teams will start to get desperate once the other UFAs don't choose them.

Anyone find it strange that 4 members of the 2018 wj Canada hockey team were not qualified as RFAs by their NHL teams? At only 23 or 24, it seems suspicious to me.
- I-own_da-Northwest

Considering they (hockey Canada) re-opened the investigation this AM - not suspicious at all. The victim stated that 8 players were involved and a settlement was reached, therefore it wasn't tested in court.

As far as I can tell, Steel, Mete (who addressed the issue a few weeks ago and said he knew nothing of it) and C Point were on that team and are currently UFAs - not sure who the 4th is??

Clague just signed and Gadj, Formenton received Q offers

They tried to keep it hush but this isn't the end of the ordeal. Imagine if guys like Makar, Kyrou, Hart, and Thomas were part of it....the consequences????

If MNGT moves him before they have a chance to see what this club (with Miller) can do under a full season of Boudreau it's asinine. There are no 'kings ransom' offers for Miller. Only Canuck fans would now want a full tear down with a coach at at .668% winning clip and a 100 point player on the roster. Honestly you just have to love this fuckin stuff

He’s fun to watch for sure and he’s instantly our best forechecker by a mile. A bit more scoring touch and he’ll far surpass the value of his contract.

Nicker also went on about not drafting dmen early for a few seasons. He’s pivoted on that as well.

It’s probably a bit rich, but that’s to be expected. Hopefully he still has room to grow as a player with a bigger role than in TO

Is it? The canucks are not a Cup contending team this coming season. We may squeak into the playoffs, maybe win a round, and then what? Nobody makes a meaningful trade for a pending UFA at season end.

You’re willing to forgo any return that Miller might bring for a playoff birth and maybe a first round win? Even if he has a 100 point season, I think Miller’s true value is what he could bring in through a trade.

TBH, a playoff birth seems like a poor return on an asset like Miller.

Asinine is keeping him and letting him walk after they miss the playoffs by 3 points.

If Kadri signs elsewhere, can see a couple teams trying to ramp up for JTM.

Still think a Garland/Marino trade makes a lot of sense.

- NewYorkNuck

Yup, PITT's is loaded with RHD and needs cap relief. I'm sure they have an eye on other comparable young D as well.

Curious to see what the Penguins end up doing with either John Marino or Marcus Pettersson, both of whom are out there in the trade market.

If we could re-sign Miller and Horvat, dump off Poolman, Pearson to pay for it. Dump Richardinson after this season(I think he will be good on the 4th line for a year while someone younger gets 1 more season to develop in Abby) and use Garland to get Marino, this will be a very successful off season.

Frank Seravalli on SN650 this morning:

"The Mikheyev one, it feels to me talking to other people around the league that it's a bit of an overpay, it's a bit of a reach. I think people like Mikheyev and are curious about where his game is going. He's close to a .5-point per game player, but really hasn't been able to stay on the ice. He's missed significant time due to injury. The really interesting part for me, I had heard heading into free agency that Mikheyev's camp thought they might be able to get 3 years at $4-$4.25M on the market. Some teams at the point were saying like, 'Sounds a bit rich.'"

"To land at 4 years at $4.75M kinda suprised me ... I did not honestly get an impression there were a lot of teams interested in Mikheyev. Heading into free agency I'd checked around, and teams were like, 'I don't know who can afford to pay that type of price among contending teams to add a player that is not exactly a front-line player in that range. The middle class type of player is exactly the type of player that has been getting squeezed."

Just think of the confusion it will create in OT.

"I'm on Petterssson!"
"Which one?"
"I thought I was covering Pettersson!"
Uhhhhh dead! Canucks score.
