"The Mikheyev one, it feels to me talking to other people around the league that it's a bit of an overpay, it's a bit of a reach. I think people like Mikheyev and are curious about where his game is going. He's close to a .5-point per game player, but really hasn't been able to stay on the ice. He's missed significant time due to injury. The really interesting part for me, I had heard heading into free agency that Mikheyev's camp thought they might be able to get 3 years at $4-$4.25M on the market. Some teams at the point were saying like, 'Sounds a bit rich.'"
"To land at 4 years at $4.75M kinda suprised me ... I did not honestly get an impression there were a lot of teams interested in Mikheyev. Heading into free agency I'd checked around, and teams were like, 'I don't know who can afford to pay that type of price among contending teams to add a player that is not exactly a front-line player in that range. The middle class type of player is exactly the type of player that has been getting squeezed."

I think they are hoping he can blossom much like Miller (not expecting that much). Everyone cried as were to small and slow....they paid a bit of a premium to get a bigger body that can literally keep up with Mcdavid.
I'm going to wait and see. If they ship out Garlund or something for a RHD it makes sense.

“Vegas traded three draft picks for Tomas Tatar.
Then traded Tatar and Nick Suzuki for Max Pacioretty.
Then traded Max Pacioretty for nothing.
What a wild ride.”

Vegas seems to be one of the worst run teams in the NHL.
1.85 mil for Miller, that seems like a price we could have worked out.

This is what I said about last year's acquisition of Garland, too much money, and term, for a 3rd liner..
Pretty sure you were one of the ones arguing against me.
I warned then, that Garland is a bit of a puckhogs, who likes to try do too much on his own.
As far as Mikheyev goes, I don't watch Leafs games if they are playing the Canucks, so I have no idea what to expect from this player, other than what other tell me. |

Mikayev has been hired to play top6 from most things i've read. 4.75 for a top6 guy is completely fine imo.

And yet he has market value
Don't worry he won't finish the season in VAN, he may not even make camp. |

Is it? The canucks are not a Cup contending team this coming season. We may squeak into the playoffs, maybe win a round, and then what? Nobody makes a meaningful trade for a pending UFA at season end.
You’re willing to forgo any return that Miller might bring for a playoff birth and maybe a first round win? Even if he has a 100 point season, I think Miller’s true value is what he could bring in through a trade.
TBH, a playoff birth seems like a poor return on an asset like Miller. - bloatedmosquito
Ask Calgary how they feel about that return

UFA is always 10-20% more expensive. From what I’m reading we’re going to be expecting 20+ goals and likely to be disappointed. Will enjoy his hustle and tenacity though. - 1970vintage
I’d be shocked if he doesn’t score 20. He was a defensive specialist with TO last year and scored 20 in 58 games. He is playing top 6 now |

Considering they (hockey Canada) re-opened the investigation this AM - not suspicious at all. The victim stated that 8 players were involved and a settlement was reached, therefore it wasn't tested in court.
As far as I can tell, Steel, Mete (who addressed the issue a few weeks ago and said he knew nothing of it) and C Point were on that team and are currently UFAs - not sure who the 4th is??
Clague just signed and Gadj, Formenton received Q offers
They tried to keep it hush but this isn't the end of the ordeal. Imagine if guys like Makar, Kyrou, Hart, and Thomas were part of it....the consequences???? - Brooks_Light
Clague was the 4th guy that wasn’t qualified at the time of my comment. I was thinking Sam Steel must be involved. I think Formenton was the guy who introduced the woman to his teammates. |

And he did it playing 15mins a game at 5v5v and pk only. He will get more being on pp2 and getting more minutes. |

Ya, we probably overpaid (like every team in FA), but expecting him to produce less when playing more games with better players and more offensive opportunities is pretty strange |

Yeah, but his shooting % was literally double his career average last year. Maybe he’s figured it out, maybe not. He did have 4 short handed goals, so it will be exciting. More exciting than H. Sedin on a breakaway anyway |

Not sure how his career average is super relevant. Small sample sizes and all |

If we were coming down the stretch, as a playoff bubble team (which we are), and this roster WITHOUT Miller, would you trade whatever the offers might have been at last deadline and or this draft for a shot at getting Miller? These assets might be a good prospect/high draft pick/ player. I don't think anyone this site would make that trade as the team isn't ready to compete for a Cup.
That is what the Canucks are risking and have been risking up to this point. If Miller doesn't resign with us (and probably won't based just on our cap space alone) and walks for nothing with the team missing the playoffs or just getting in and facing Colorado and getting stomped, the team has wasted those possible assets. For a team like the Canucks that have missed the playoffs multiple years and have no real farm system to speak of, risking and losing possible assets like this is insane. There is a time to go for it, meaning the Cup (not just the playoffs) and there isn't. And in good conscience you think now is the time, and the team is ready to make a Cup run? |
