Never know what to make of certain things you hear, but the rumored offer involving #CBJ and Gaudreau today was an absolute whopper: 7 years x $12 million.

Interestingly, same total ($84m) as what I reported was on the table in Calgary.

No. Arizona already landed the goat

We could have signed Malkin , Letang MAF Copp and all the other top FA and still no guarantee the team makes the poffs or even clicks.

We're building the right way finally.

Just last year we got rid of 3 of our top players. This isnt an overnight fix.

On a related note...I recognize names like yours as the same people who were super positive about Ralph as coach. About how Botts was fixing GMTM's mess. The same names that went around telling us all how for real the 7-1-1 start was a couple years ago (or whatever/whenever it was, it's all one horrific blur to me).

I'm not trying to be mean and say you're always wrong. The point is you're a fan and you always try to see the positive in the team. That's neither right nor wrong, it's just a perspective.

The difference is I'm trying to dispassionately look at this team and compare the roster to the other 31 teams. And I just don't see an NHL playoff team. I think our top six is bottom half. Our top 4 D is super promising but I can't say they are much above average at this point. Our net situation might be bottom 5. I don't like our grinder pk forwards much either. Most of all, I think we are in a tough tough division.

I'm not trying to rain on any fans that just want to have a fun outlook. There is opening day for us all to be hopeful. But July is about getting better, and I just don't see the team making the effort. To me it looks like they are banking on just improving with what they have.

It's not though

Do we have any idea what this team will look like with a full year of Tuch, is Skinner going to be Skinner from last year, was Tage a flash in the pan, was that Okposo's last good run, etc

The one thing we all can agree on is they needed to get a goalie. But two turned us down in a trade. Comrie can be just another back up who can't handle 30 plus games a year, or he can be a guy that is a good to carry the team for a few years.

I think the best route is to make a trade or two and then see what you have with this team.

People just can't grasp the situation that:
- some portion (probably a very significant portion) of FA's don't have an Interest in coming here
- we don't know what we have here with significant number of youngins...waaaaay to many questions there

The prudent thing to do is to play it out, use this season to get the youngins more playing time here in the NHL ... that is all beneficial with very little downside.

To be snide...bless the little hearts of those who thing the team is best off overpaying in FA to chase a playoff spot.
