Norris $7.95 x 8 - spatso
A 3rd year player who hasn't played close to a full season yet making that? That's basically Johnny G. term and money for what so far is 90 points in 125 games, and only one 30+ goal season.
I hope for the Sens sake it ends up being a good signing down the road and they read their tea leaves correctly, but he should by all rights be making closer to Jake Guentzel money, if even that at this point in his career. |

Glad to see!
It remains to be seen if he can keep up the same production, his shooting % was quite high last year, but I think he can still be a solid second line center regardless.
He could even continue to improve.
Either way, long term signing of a young player. More optimism has been needed for a long time. |

The new NHL, you pay players for what they can do for you now. Shrinking money for retirement contracts.

Nice to see Norris locked up for 8 years at $8M per. Very fair contract for a 1A/1B centerman. It will look really good in 2 to 3 years when the salary cap goes over $90M. |

Hard for me to get excited by Klingburg.
We believe they need a shut down type of guy to partner with Chabot or similar combination to offer a more stable defensive effort. Not sure how adding another offensive player would contribute to that need.

I think the Norris contract is a bit of an overpayment. While he played well last year, he's a bit one-dimensional and once teams know to cover that one-timer, he will need to expend his skill palette.
However, having 2 solidified power play units could help alleviate teams covering one option as the team will have several on both units. I hope he is able to progress upwards and improve his face-off ability.
Bottom line, nice to see him locked up long term. Sens are slowly creeping towards being a cap team. Weird and exciting times! |

11M coming off the books next year with gambrell, hamonic, Watson, Holden, talbot contracts ending & phaneuf’s buyout expiring. |

One thing to remember, so far, the Senators have not lost a single prospect this off season.
They are flush with assets and can easily improve the defence. |

I tend to agree. I would like to see 2-way option like Weager or Chychrun. I feel those rumours are starting to trail off though.
If Sanderson is seen more has a 2-way, stay at home option, maybe a Sanderson-Klingberg pairing isn't so bad if you have Chabot-Zub and your primary pairing. Would be nice to have an offensive minded, right shot d-man for the power play. |

Lost in the shuffle, there are still some solid prospects looking to make some noise like Greig, Thomson, JBD, Sokolov, Soogard, etc. Not saying these guys are NHL locks, but there are guys coming up the ranks that could help solidify the depth of this team. I'm also sure a new name or two will come out of development camp. |

Norris $7.95 x 8 - spatso
Well, that's a bit more than I'd hoped (was thinking more like $6.5M-$7M AAV, or else maybe a bridge deal), but they're clearly locking up the core. Feels like there may really be something of an internal $8.0M Chabot "soft-cap" as well, with Norris getting $7.95M AAV, and the fact that Tkachuk had to hold-out to go just ~$0.2M over. We'll have to see how that plays out in terms of RFA negotiations with DeBrincat/Stutzle. |

Whether or not the norris contract is a mil or two too much... at least it is done, no holdouts or anything of that nature.
The core is getting locked up but I worry about Bath. Love his play and his contract is easily one of the best value contracts in the league but does anyone have concerns over him and the WCJ team in 17/18? |
