even without one of the D that OTT is mentioned trying to get i think OTT D is better than the leafs - Mithos
Leafs D is not strong and their goaltending can be doubtful.
They have weak 3rd and 4th lines.
They have had a really strong power play and good penalty kill.
But the strength of the blue team is the 4 guys on their two top lines. It is the core of everything that works for the Leafs.
I am very excited to see the Sens top two lines go head to head against the Leafs. I think the Sens 3rd line should have their way with the Leafs 3rd line.
It is a beautiful summer and I need to be careful not to wish it away wanting an early hockey start.

Very encouraging. Just as long as they keep enough in reserve for Stutzle, DeBrincat and Zub. Lots of deadwood they could clear out this year in order to create space. Not as easy to find savings next year. - spatso
11M coming off the books next year with gambrell, hamonic, Watson, Holden, talbot contracts ending & phaneuf’s buyout expiring. |

the sad part is anyone with a functioning brain cell, which seems to be getting rarer and rarer every day, can tell she is 100% lying, the 2 biggest red flags are ease to spot, She did not file a police report and she refused to cooperate with all investigations.
February 2019 — Hockey Canada says London police informed the organization its criminal investigation was closed. Hockey Canada says the woman declined to speak with authorities or its own investigators.
April 2022 — The woman files a statement of claim seeking $3.55 million in damages from Hockey Canada, the Canadian Hockey League and the eight unnamed players.
over 3 year to file suit just when the players would be key pieces in their teams...
lies for money. - Mithos
Careful. If you imply guilt or declare guilt or call kids whose names you don't even know scumbags you are fine but make a post casting doubt on the legitimacy of these completely unsupported allegations and you will be reminded that this is a sports blog and not the place to jump to conclusions. Funny how that works.
In this world of the 24/7 outrage mob common sense and truth and even facts mean less than nothing. Innocent until proven guilty? HA! You've got to be kidding. |

With all the exciting roster moves, one has to wonder how the coaching will pan out. A hot start to the year would be great for everyone but if things get bumpy, wonder how quick DJ could be out of a job. Before the season, I feel there was quite a bit of leeway. With the moves we see now, gotta wonder if the margin of error is quite thin. |

Funny, I did not get it on first read. It was just above the Victor Mete announcement signing by the Leafs.

One way to find out which top 4 D the Sens are about to trade for would be to check the 2027-2028 Maple Leafs roster.

But those are pretty close to being expenditure neutral because they require a replacement contract in each instance. Could save $2m on Hamonic after replacement. Maybe a bit on Talbot but if he plays well they might need to reup him.
Next year will be a lot different than the fun spending of this summer. Stutzle, Dibrincat and Zub will be a heavy lift. Around $11 to 13m of added cost over this year. It is an incredibly bold strategy by Dorion. I love it. But the team has to play really well this year in order to be able to sustain all the financial assumptions behind what they are trying to do.

Absolutely, but I truly don't see the team keeping DeBrincat long term, with Sanderson and Stutzle deals coming soon too....team needs to hope players with ELC's replace those contracts out the door next year!

Very thin, I mentioned last night, either on Twitter or in the comment section....I was told PD has a contingency plan in place for the coaching staff...

Man there's a lot of money going out the door! I would have preferred a bridge deal with Norris because I don't think he's a number 1C and you can't be paying 2nd liners 8 million.
The Sens now have 2 second liners at 8 million. Hopefully the cap goes up before those contracts start costing them actual first liners.
I wonder how Batherson is feeling about his contract now?
I'll be curious to see what they do with Formenton and Joseph and eventually Stutzle.
Just keep my fingers crossed and hope the cap goes up faster than expected.
But they will be in the hunt for a wild card spot or better for years to come. |

I don't think DJ is all that important once the drills and practices are finished.
Brady is the captain and he will lead these guys over the hill and they will win or lose in direct relation to how willfully committed they become to each other and in their grand cause of wanting to win.
I think Brady is a special type of leader and the guys will follow him. The Sens will be a very tough out every night. Smith will stand behind the bench, smile and drink his water. People will wonder how he has improved as a coach.

That makes sense and would be really sharp asset management.

Kevin you was right. Yesterday Pierre was in french tv for interview. Eric Fichaud ask him why the team the last two years have poor start. Mention couple things and finish saying DJ he s one with the most intense training camp. Said we gonna change couple little things |

im guessing DJ will get 10 game increments, if OTT goes on a bad slump Dorion will fire him. |

I think a coach can mess a team up. But they are marginally influential in terms of winning and losing outcomes unless they start to believe that they are more important than the players. DJ has a great rapport with most of his young guys. He loves them. If they succeed he will be known as a great coach. If they fail he will be fired.

I have been messaging back and forth on text with 2 AGM in the NHL....both said to me.....the fact Norris reinjured the shoulder so easily last year after having it surgically repaired 2 years earlier should be worrisome and that they wouldn't give him 8 years after not even playing 2 full NHL seasons. I've spoke with a few local media members who have covered the team for awhile...they all thought bridge deal too....they said TB did that with many of their high end talent....and they were stunned how Ottawa is so quick to hand out 8 year deals....time will tell. like you said, the cap needs to take a big jump in 2 years or they will have serious cap issues. I do thnk Joseph gets done before arbitration....Formenton....I don't expect to be done for awhile.

Honestly, to say marginally influential is way off....talk to any NHL GM or past/current coach....they will tell you otherwise. Even PD said a very good NHL coach can get you an extra 10 points a season.....that is telling! |

Jesse Winchester said Greig has been incredible at dev camp....he has looked good when I have been there. PD said Boucher will be the type of player that will help you win a Stanley CUp on that show....high praise. Greig will get to play WJ's too....he should have a hell of a camp! |
