rofl that tweet is dumb, Mathews and or Marner are injured leafs become a lotery team, OTT loses two of their top 6 this year they can still make it out of the bottom 10, no depth vs depth.
Id take the combo of Norris and bath or Brady and Bath over Marner or Mathews every day, Sens can weather injuries leafs cannot - Mithos
It would make a huge difference if Chychrun was slotted in over Zaitsev.

Cap is going to be a factor soon enough.
Sens will be hard on the cap next year but they can do it if we assume:
-Stutzle gets $8m
-DiBrincat gets $9m
-Zub gets $5m.
-Zaitsev has been swapped out for an equivalent salary (Chychrun at $4.6m).
-Pinto does not have monster season and ask for big money.
It will be cap challenging to get through the next 3 years. They should be able to avoid it but it is possible one of the big salaries may have to go, perhaps as early as next summer. - spatso
I would much rather have 5 to 6 guys making 7 to 9 million than 3 guys making 10 million or more

Love this comment. As you know, I always believe that if the Sens can beat Leafs and Canadiens in their head to head matches they will make the playoffs.
Matthews has Hart

Once again, Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner are each better than the entirety of the Ottawa top 6 and the only players nylander and Tavares are behind is debrincat (maybe)
So seriously, a really good question, which top 11 would you take (6 forwards, 4 D and a goalie.
Matthews Norris
Marner Tkachuck
Bunting Batherson
Tavares Stutzle
Nylander Dibrincat
Jankrok Giroux
Rielly Chabot
Muzzin Zub
Brodie Zaitsev
Giordano Hamonic
Murray Talbot
Would it make a difference if you could swap out Zaitsev for Chychrun? - spatso
I hope all of you Sens fans realize this guy is a die hard Leafs fan, always has been, always will be if you ever read him on Leafs blogs for years. So to listen to him tell all of you that Nylander and Tavares are better than every Ottawa forward, except maybe DeBrincat, I hope you all call him out for this crap of his. Tavares has fallen off dramatically and will continue to do so this year. Nylander is soft as toiler paper and there is a reason the Leafs rumours for 2 years now about trading him are for real. I know I would take DeBrincal, Norris, Tkachuk or Stutzle over Nylander or Tavares any day of the week. |

No team has ever won the Cup with a player making more than 10M per year.

Not only the tweet but the ensuing comment by Leafs die hard fan spatso as well. What a joke he is spewing this crap about how the Leafs top 4 forwards are all better than any of the Sens forwards. |

Unless Stutzle has a monster year I think you can probably lower his cap hit. Even though they overpaid Brady they shouldn't do it again. Also Stutzle needs to stop diving so much. He makes the Sedins look like Wendel Clark. |

Are you serious?
After 3 months on this thread you conclude I am a Leaf fan? I must be getting better at hiding my Sens bias.
I am not offended. I suppose I have been accused of worse things.
Some of us have been here for many years and have fairly consistent track records in regard to what we believe.
It would be funny if you reposted your comment on the Leaf thread. I am sure they would find it highly amusing. Did you not notice that the bolded comment you are attributing to me apparently was actually made by a Leaf poster. |

For what it's worth, Zito signed Lucas Carlsson on July 8, and he is waivers eligible. He signed Anthony Bitetto on the 13th, and now MDZ. With Ekblad, Montour and Gudas he has 3 RD on one way deals. Capfriendly puts Florida at 3.025M *over* the cap as of right now. Mack Weegar's contract is 3.25M. I really think Weegar is still a target. |

You have to believe something big is about to break in Florida. They keep signing all these depth players.

For sure. If it's not Ottawa, I feel like somebody is knocking about Weegar, or possibly Montour. |

It can't be for another Hamonic and certainly not next year's first. If they get a Chychrun or Theodore and give up a first and Greig I can almost live with it but just barely. That's what a scouting department is supposed to do.
Everybody loves the DeBrincat and Giroux moves regardless of the longer term effects. Spot on. The team needs to sell tickets.
Unless you're talking guys like Chychrun or Theodore you don't give up the first and Greig and even then I balk. Send them more second tier prospects while Greig and Boucher and Kleven should stay. |

Panthers have $6.5m of dead cap, most of it goes away next summer. But, they are still $3.5m. over cap going into this year. Panthers will gain about $1.5m in cap relief this year because of Duclair's surgery and rehab.
So, Florida does not want any salary coming back other than for the entry level salary committed for prospects. Most important, they especially cannot afford to take back Zaitsev as part of any deal.
Doing a deal with Florida would be complicated and might need to involve a third team in order to get it done. |

Pierre Dorion has had a remarkable off-season. Sportsnet has nice feature talking about how Dorion is getting it all done.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/...oves-during-busy-stretch/
Want to see his final move be on the same level as the other changes he has made.
Chychrun appears to be the consensus best Dman available.
Hope Dorion does what he needs to do to get a deal done. Chychrun would be the cherry on top. Then we can all relax and I can spend the rest of my summer thinking mostly about fishing rather than obsessing on hockey 24/7. |

Zaitsev will have to be a separate deal, one that I suspect PD already has in place. FLA may not want a roster player coming back as they have too many, so someone who can play in minors this year will have to go. Sokolov and two 2nds? Maybe Brannstrom, who seems the odd man out?

Great article by Yost. States the obvious that has been repeated on this thread many time by many different posters. But sometimes the obvious needs to be repeated in objective simple terms for everyone.
