I've been putting together a piece on it now but this Matthew stuff is interesting. - Kevin Francis
Add in Chris Tanev and make it a blockbuster.
I have been looking at Calgary's d-core because if they decided to move Tkachuk for futures, they are doing a mini rebuild at a minimum. |

There are only a few scenarios where Matthew comes to Ottawa:
1 - he wants to come to Ottawa
2 - he agrees to a long term deal before any trade
3 - such a deal will be exactly $19 more OR less than the deal Brady just signed ( I will let the brothers figure out seniority vs captaincy)
But if he truly wants to be in the states he ain't coming to Ottawa. And I very much doubt he signs the deal i laid out in #3 or agrees to less money than Chabots deal.
If...and huge IF...he agrees to the first three conditions I just laid out the ONLY deal that makes sense for both teams is some deal involing either Debrinicat or Forementon. And if I'm Calgary I insist on Grieg being a part of the deal
So either Debrinicat and Grieg for Matthew. Or Formenton, Brannstrom, Grieg and JBD/1st rd.
And Ottawa would still need a RD after all is said and done.
Tempting. Very tempting. But they both do the same thing IMO and Matthew would cost too much.
Spend the draft capital on Weegar instead. - GrimmdaGoalie
Id' rather he focussed on the D as well.....but like they say, you arent doing job if you don't look into it as a GM!

They will try to sell it to the fanbase as a re-tool....but still contend for the playoffs.

I agree with What's.
Actually I think most are in agreement that Smith has to go.
Not too many "yay DJ Smith, love how he's managed assets in down years" people in here.
I think the Orleans Operator has his Zaitsev move already lined up. If he deals him now then he'll have to pay more for whatever D he's after or there's the perception of that. If he still has him, then he can deal for his D from a position of "well I don't really need your guy" kinda place. - Octavarium
Very true on all fronts! And a big yes on DJ from the majority of this fanbase!

IF you have a 8 year contract at $70 million on the table to give ...
You have a trade offered to you:
LW Alex DeBrincat for LW Matthew Tkachuk
would you make the deal? |

If they move Matt, then there's a chance Calgary could unload Tanev, depends if they are rebuilding or re-tooling the roster.

He wants 10M plus though....that's what I am told.

The only way this works with Brady, a higher draft pick, the captain, and his brother, is if Matthew takes a matching deal. If he wants to play with his brother and not frick up the chemistry, it's really the only option. I'd give DeBrincat straight up if that was on the table, but if Matthew wants 10+ (and if he's the player he was last year, he's worth that) it's just not happening. - Bartacus
Exactly! Beyond agree on all accounts here. |

Yeah I'm just brainstorming and throwing out fun ideas.
Agree with your points. DeBrincat is a player that the Sens don't have in their system. They need this EXACT piece - only wish he was about 3-4 inches taller. Matthew would be great but I don't see him fitting on this team. He would have to play 2nd line with Stutzle and Giroux. That would be amazing but for 10m, there's no way we could make that work |

Andersson - Crosside
You know your GM ain’t taking on 4 years term of Andersson. It’s been known for awhile that Dorion has talked highly of Tanev due to his physical side and has compared him to Methot so Tanev would be his clone. |

Precisely, your GM has gushed over Tanev for awhile now.

Tkachuk is far more physical and fits the type of player your coach likes more than DeBrincat, let’s be honest. - PuckPix
At the beginning of the summer talk hockey season I listed my favourite wishes in order of preference: Matthew Tkachuk, Pierre Luc Dubois and Evander Kane. I did not have DeBrincat on my list but very pleased to add a 41 goal scorer. More concerned with the Giroux signing and the addition now of 2 small players into the top 6. I love skill and speed but also believe you cannot win in the playoffs without having a strong physical presence.

Gotta hope he stays out west, enough great players have moved to the Eastern Conference. |

Only way a Matthew Tkachuk trade makes sense (Ottawa isn't trading DeBrincat just days after they acquire him, come on guys) is if Batherson goes the other way. And with the WJC incident still casting a shadow, I don't see any team wanting to acquire him until there is clarity on his involvement or lack thereof. |
|
|
|
This is little more than an indulgent pipe dream. If people were already worried about trying to fit DeBrincat into the team's salary structure, what the hell are they going to do with an even more expensive winger? Plus, the whole point of investing $8.2M/yr in Brady Tkachuk is to have a power-forward skill set to the top-6 forward group. Let him earn his money, and work on the roster areas where they don't have clear solutions. Case-in point, if more resources are going to be invested in the on-ice product for the coming year, they need to keep their focus on a top-4D. |

Process of elimination of those who have said they weren't involved shows eight players' representation not commenting, citing the ongoing investigation. Deduction indicates pretty clearly that both Senators are involved. |

I have no basis for this, but I'm assuming it's the coach. |
