Sounds like the Giroux contract includes a full no-move clause. |

Penguins Final 2021-22 Report Cards
ByRick Buker

C+
John Marino, RD
Season mirrored that of his frequent partner, Marcus Pettersson. Faded after a strong start, tallying only eight assists over his final 42 games. Expected to provide offense from the blue line, Marino managed just one goal. At plus-1, his defensive play wasn’t airtight either. Career arc has flattened following a strong rookie season. - Whatisavailable

You gotta bridge that…everybody this season had a breakout year lol
I’d need to see a bit more from him before giving him that much. - Trilla

Sens' Top 6 last year (goals + points per 82 games)
Tkachuk (31g, 69p) Norris (43g, 68p) Batherson (30g, 78p)
DeBrincat (41g, 78p) Stutzle (23g, 60p) Giroux (23g, 71p)
Stutzle will have an amazing year if he plays a full season |
|
|
|
I think these signings are going to be excellent for the younger players' development.
Stu is most likely playing with Giroux and DeBrincat. That is a bit of an upgrade for him. |

Gudbrannson got signed by Columbus for $4M/yr for 4 years... yikes. |
|
|
|
PD missed the boat trying to unload Zaitsev to AZ, NYR beat him to it....Nemeth gets traded along with 2nd round picks....Chicago is their number one option to unload that contract now!
I've been told to watch for Paul Stastny as a possible guy on a one year deal if Brown is moved.....naturally lots of moving pieces but something to keep an eye on. |

Sens are signing Giroux tomorrow (unless someone way overbids)regardless of dumping Zaitsev and/or making a trade. It should happen relatively fast.
Like I said previously, the Chychrun talk cooled right after the draft when Dorion decided to land DeBrincat instead with the 7th.
If I was to rank likelihood of becoming a Sen from the available defencemen I would go:
1.Weegar
2.Klingberg
3.Marino
4.Chychrun
5. Rutta - Cup 06
Talks with Klingberg has picked up. He can get more money elsewhere but he’s very interested in what the Sens are doing. Sens would do five years. |

...Not very "win now"? Or is this a cap space kinda move for a bigger signing? |

Connor Brown to the Caps for a 2nd round pick. - Kevin Francis
Nobody hated the Sens more and Sens fans hated him. I think he once refused to be traded to Ottawa so his quote is pretty strong.

No team has made better strides than the
@Senators
Will contend for playoffs and Giroux will help group grow!! Sens will win CUP before Leafs

I don't think all of these moves should be construed as a "win now" scenario. It should be simply viewed as the next step in the progression towards contention. |

Tkachuk / Norris / Batherson
Debrincat / Stutzle / Giroux
Formenton / Pinto / Joseph
Not bad. A one / two punch with a speedy 3rd line. |

Absolutely Justin! A few moving pieces right now....but that pick helps Ottawa as I know PD has gone back to AZ now offering two 2nd round picks, JBD, Sokolov and another prospect for Chychrun. Marino and Weegar still in play. |

Not a huge fan of dealing JBD but you have to give to get.

No first rounder? I'd have to think a first is offered / demanded, even if Ottawa protects it. |

Improving the forwards and stabilizing goaltending makes the holes on defence look even bigger. Dorion needs to do what he needs to do in order to add a top four D that is a good fit with the current group.

Hopefully moving Brown is the precursor for a bigger move. Moving him and potentially Zaitsev creates lots of money room.
Brown is the first piece to move that will need to be replaced in some manner. He had quality PK ability and created great chances. |

depends on who that other prospect is, only ones left are thompson and Greig that have any big value |

what a terrible return.... - Mithos
It's a bit surprising there wasn't a team to beat that offer. Not that Brown is elite but he's a durable 3rd line player. On the right team, he'd be a key piece. It's too bad the outlook after this season, he was likely gone, so now is a good time to move him as any.
The 2nd is ok for a return. Fairly certain that move moves are to come. |
