Hate that about him but he did good this off-season - 668710
no doubt.
I see no one is mentioning Rodrigues anymore but would you guys be mad if we re-signed him to a $2.5M 2Y deal?
Would you rather have Heinen or Rodrigues signed? |

I didn't mean the team to a man, I meant in structure and impact.
Kessel = Rackell > talented offensive winger.
Hornquist = Zucker > undersized gritty and highly paid winger.
Murray = Jarry > unreliable goaltending.
Schultz = Marino > a decent but soft 2nd pair RD - Marino +D -O
McCann = Heinen
Bjugstad = Carter > an aging vet 3C.
Maata = Dumo of this year... no legs left.
The only difference in the team really is that we have Matheson in the top 4 D instead of what was the better, shutdown version of Dumo. Then we have Sid, Geno, Letang, Jake, Rust & Pettersson who are playing at a very similar level to back then with the exception of Pettersson being a bit better and Geno slowing down a bit.
My point was more about the formula being the same. - MacPatty
Yeah.,..I cant really get behind this post. The Pens as a team play a far superior overall team game the past few season compared to 2019 and 2020 versions IMO...and that has a lot to do with the different personnel.

Neither. The RFAs that weren't qualified are probably better value for the same price with more upside. |

2.5 for the mid six winger who can streak into a top 6 production apparently? Nah that seems pretty fair market value, probably a mil less than he could get elsewhere. |

Only way to do that is to trade dumo or Petts. Doesn’t seem like that’s happening right now so pens may be bargain shopping - drummer829
The reason I mentioned Kase and Kapanen as possibilities |

I'd rather shoot for Milano over Heinen/Erod. We know what those 2 are. Milano has some skill to him and like Feds said, doing Milano-Geno-Rackell could be a fun line to watch.

I do think hextall is good at finding players that fit well. I see maybe 1 depth signing today and then of course his 1 annual TDL trade. Other than that I think the roster is set and the main key to success will be health, not overworking Jarry/older players, and giving the old guys some rest down the stretch. |

My main concern is them signing someone like Domi and and keeping Kapanen.
The likely bargain players I'd go after that they can fit without a trades:
-Rem Pitlick
-Rudolfs Balcers
-Sonny Milano
-Ryan Donato
-Sam Steele
-Chris Tierney
None of these are sexy names, but these are players who can potentially replace ERod and Heinen, but IMO with more upside.

They did a great job on these contracts. My only concern is we still basically have the same team as we have flunked out of the playoffs with for the last 4 years (plus Rackell now).
I think all 3 areas of the team still need to be improved or there needs to be one big move that will give them an overwhelming strength.
1. Forward - I think Zucker is going to have a great, bounce back year but I would love to get a real power forward to play with Geno and Rackell. I do think bringing back Kessel for $2.5M to play on the 3rd line would also make a lot of sense.
2. Defence - Can we ditch one of the Petts/Dumo to build out forward strength or do we make a trade that gives us an upgrade over Marino to compensate. Petry and Dumba are guys that make sense in a trade.
3. Goaltending - I can't believe we would walk back with the same goaltending duo that has failed badly and been the sole cause of us getting knocked out of the playoffs the past 2 seasons. Id like to see DeSmith go and sign Samsonov but not sure how that would all work. - MacPatty
Goaltending... Desmith played 1 game and was hurt. Jarry came in rusty and still hurt for 1 game. Not exactly on them for our most recent outing. |

CDS will prob suck again after another off season surgery like last year for a few months. Which might lead to Jarry overworked again. Not the goalies fault but managements fault for not changing anything. That being said CDs if healthy i think is a fine backup |

I find these types of comments very short sighted. There wasn't much the same about any of those series except they didn't advance...and played Isles in two of them...with both teams having different rosters, injuries, etc each time. |

DeSmith gets injured every year and Jarry has about an .875 Save% in the playoffs. Who is our 3rd goalie now this year?

After signing Malkin, the Penguins are entering the free agency period with $3,383,158 in cap space with 11 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders under contract. That's a figure that includes Drew O'Connor, Radim
So we have a little over 3 mil left. No free agents this off-season. We will basically have the same team but top players past their prime, mid 30s starting next yr. I want to be optimistic but damn i wanted to younger, faster, and maybe a little more hungry...

If he gets healthy, I expect Filip Lindberg to get called up.
