The Pens re-signed Geno!
- Rinosaur

I was waiting for Pens resigned Rakell lol. All jokes aside. Hopefully we can move a contract and make a few deals to bring in some younger bargain players. I do agree with most that it does stink that Hex won't attach a pick to save some salary. It's addition by subtraction. With all these RFAs not getting qualifying offers we can rebuild our prospect pool to be pretty solid. Unfortunately all of us have the mindset of sign some younger guys and use picks to get rid of salary and an older guy like Dumo. Or just get rid of a pick to move out some contracts for space.

I agree that Zucker is a prime breakout candidate this season, but I would definitely take an extra 5.5 million in this market with these FAs

I find these types of comments very short sighted. There wasn't much the same about any of those series except they didn't advance...and played Isles in two of them...with both teams having different rosters, injuries, etc each time.
- MattStrat

The last two years the Pens have been completely sunk by their goaltending. We have the exact same goaltending, and pretty much the exact same defence... should we expect a different result?

Every year the Pens get bullied in the playoffs and then just play down to their opponents with no push back because they have almost no one who can throw a body check. Every year the Pens are the easiest team in the playoffs to play against. Teams just tee off on the Pens D and their own D are able to do nice clean breakouts because they know they will never be forechecked hard.

I'm not saying I want to blow up the team but I want 3 things:

1. A left winger for Geno who can play a bit like Kunitz... talented enough to contribute offensively but always looking to throw a heavy hit.

2. A defenceman who will actually cross check and put a guy on his ass in front of the net... you know, like every other team does with Malkin and Crosby.

3. A goalie who can push Jarry for the starter role and handle a heavy enough workload that we have two fresh goalies for the playoffs.

If he gets healthy, I expect Filip Lindberg to get called up.
- Rinosaur

I'm really hopeful for Lindberg long term but again, we are counting on a guy who has 7 games of AHL experience before getting a season ending injury. I just don't think it's reasonable to think he is going to be able to contribute anything to the Pens next season.

He is probably two good years out from being a contributor.

Jarry played injured in the Islanders series, he wasn't ready to come back then got injured by the (frank)ing Islanders before the playoffs. I'm not as worried about Jarry as most. I'm not saying he will be a stud but I think he needs a healthy run here to see what we really have.

The bullied narrative is tiring and quite frankly, dated. I didn't see any playing down to the opponent these past playoffs. The Pens dominated the Rags at 5 on 5 and in pretty much every known metric. It's their goaltending, PP and PK that came up short. The goaltending might of been the same on paper this season but DeSmith, who looked pretty damn good in game 1 didnt finish that game and never did come back to series, and Jarry played game 7 on a still pretty broken foot. He never would of played if it wasn't game 7. So to say the goaltending is the same the past two playoffs isnt quite accurate.

I do agree with your 3 points though...I'd love for all 3 of those to come to fruition, though not realistic for all 3.

I'm fine with the player if he can keep healthy. Zucker plays the game the right way.

After signing Malkin, the Penguins are entering the free agency period with $3,383,158 in cap space with 11 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders under contract. That's a figure that includes Drew O'Connor, Radim

So we have a little over 3 mil left. No free agents this off-season. We will basically have the same team but top players past their prime, mid 30s starting next yr. I want to be optimistic but damn i wanted to younger, faster, and maybe a little more hungry...

Yeah I don't care. The Pens weren't winning cups in the next 4-5 years anyway. It's way cooler seeing Sid/Geno/Letang ride off into the sunset together like the three amigos.

That's the whole thing for me. The Pens have defied odds with the players they've draft since Mario Lemieux. To the point Pens fans think we'll just suck and then draft some generational talents at-will. This may be the last time any of us see the guys like Geno in a Pens uniform.

Yeah the Pens have been going the route of the old Red Wings team at the end of Z/Dats's career. I've been calling it for a few years now, but I'm cool with it. Got 3 cups and 4 finals appearances and some awesome memories out of it and now I get to watch some of the best Pens players to ever play in the jersey retire a Penguin? Easily happy with how everything worked out.

If they make it out of the first round?? poop that's better than I'd expect, but even if they don't I give zero (frank)s.

Yeah, I mean those old bastards finally gave us a game one OT win in the 4th year in a row of attempting such things hahah...and I was so happy that they gave us that 3 OT winner thrill hahaha even said here that if thats it Im happy with it....no one thought the Pens were winning that series vs Rags. No one here, no one in the media and no analysts. They played like hot garbage like half of March and most of April...but then....came out looking real good in that series, like they did mid season. Up 3-1 was a shock...then Sid went down and the whole thing got flipped hahah
