They knew he was their target. They did nothing to prepare for it. Total management failure.

So, my only problem with your plan is that it is too creative. I can't see Fletcher ever coming up with something that forward thinking.

Looks like JG is going to save the Flyersfrom themselves by signing with NJ. Given the choice between the 2 NJ is a no brainers. Up and coming young team with talent. Now watch Fletcher panic and go give Kadri a 7yr 10M deal. Would be so Flyers.
- hfc355

Devils will likely sign Kadri too. They have the space.

Not a really good idea but I wouldn't put it past Fletcher.

If he didn’t sign back in Calgary then he already knows where he is going. With the buyout of Lindblom, I’m sure Fletch has his plan in place….I just don’t think he would be stupid enough to move the 1rst rnd pick for next years draft for the JVR trade.
Plan B is not a plan I want to see.

If you're dead set on JG and miss out then Plan B should be stand pat and don't sign anyone. Take the pain this season and make your picks. I don't see this happening though.

A third straight bottom feeder season with a GM whose job is on the line? How is that an option for Fletcher?

It's likely not but it's what I'd do.

Let’s be honest, the Flyers aren’t going to win a cup in the next 7 years. I question the drive of a player who hasn’t won a cup yet wanting to sign long term with a non contender.
I know it’s his hometown but at $10m+ the player better be expecting to lift a cup.

7 years? So a 54 year Cup drought? Surely people wouldn't try and rationalize that would they?

The interesting thing is that if Coots and Hayes get through the season relatively healthy, this team is almost a bubble team by default. Almost lol

May be why he’ll sign in nj. Who knows. It’s clear that he at least wanted to move to the east coast and out of Calgary. With the taxes he’ll save south of the boarder, the extra year they offered isn’t as impactful as you’d think.

you are a total moron. The least educated person on these boards by far when it comes to hockey.

There is no correlation between the pens situation and the flyers pursuing a free agent.

you also need to factor in the high quality of living in the philly area.....

80 million from a contender or say 87 from a bottom feeder. Already had a massive contract. Easy choice to me.

I will be beyond shocked if Ellis plays this season. So our d is going to be suspect unless there is some other move to be made. If the whole roster is healthy then yes. A bubble team.

Carolina GM already stated they could not give him 10 mill. It wasn’t that TDA offered to stay in car for less. Just wish we had a Slavin to help support TDAs game…
- Joe Nardone

It was not that they couldn't give him 5M a year. It's that they wouldn't choose to. Basically, they don't believe that DeAngelo is worth that.

Matthew Tkachuk is who they should inquire about; if he wants out. Doubtful tunnel vision Chuck will/did.

I am curious to see how all this plays out. I thought I remember Torterella saying something to the effect that not everything will be fixed in a year. I could be wrong but I thought he acknowledged that.

If that's the case then I am not against adding Gaudrea, because I do think he can help guys like Tippett, Allison, Cates and Frost but then I would still be ok seeing guys like Konecny moved in a good hockey trades to maybe clear space and bring back possibly prospects and picks.

I think there is a way to do this without going scorched earther either way.

I personally don't want them to add a center.
