If you're dead set on JG and miss out then Plan B should be stand pat and don't sign anyone. Take the pain this season and make your picks. I don't see this happening though.
- Hextall271

I said this yesterday and I still agree. They should suck it up and stop chasing their tail.

BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if Braun is resigned today.

It was not that they couldn't give him 5M a year. It's that they wouldn't choose to. Basically, they don't believe that DeAngelo is worth that.
- MJL

do you have any proof this is the case as you like to say to others?

How do you know they don't feel he is worth it? They may very well feel he is worth though they also may have other options that are more cost effective in their team structure. Nah that cant be it he isn't worth it Cliff says. Guess should just ignore the Larry Brooks article as well.

I will be beyond shocked if Ellis plays this season. So our d is going to be suspect unless there is some other move to be made. If the whole roster is healthy then yes. A bubble team.
- Hextall271

I dont think Ellis plays again. The moves Fletch has already made, and the cap position we are currently in, tells me he is operating as if Ellis is not going to play.

And what will the pairs be?

Provy DeAngelo
Sanheim Risto
York ??

I dont want Seeler but it seems to me they still need another vet d man for the 3rd pair.

Attard needs some seasoning in the AHL imo.

Am I missing someone? Or do we just hurt York's progression even more by saddling him with Attard and just letting it play out?

Matthew Tkachuk is who they should inquire about; if he wants out. Doubtful tunnel vision Chuck will/did.
- hello it's me 2050

They could make Calgary an offer for Tkachuk that includes enough salary to get deal done for both JG and Tkachuk.

Provy
Konecny
JVR
2024 FLA 1rst

For Tkachuk.

Do not feel like looking. Will exclude Vancouver.

Who were the highest scoring players on Torts teams over the years points wise? Any 100+ point players? 90? 80? How many times?

you are a total moron. The least educated person on these boards by far when it comes to hockey.

There is no correlation between the pens situation and the flyers pursuing a free agent.

- hello it's me 2050

A division rival can drive up the price for a high priced free agent at anytime. Nobody brought up the Penguins, you did. It’s not that difficult to understand that the Devils could easily take the Flyers out of the running, which was the original conversation.

I still cant get over the fact that we needed Tony DeAngelo last off-season but we signed Yandle instead and saved a whopping 100k.

- mochoson

There's only so many of Haye's friends that they can fit on the Flyers in a given year and Yandle had seniority so it was his turn to get signed by the Flyers :p

It's Fletcher's friends at the coaching level and Haye's friends at the player level. Although you had Chris Stewart who Fletcher signed not to play and then made him a development coach. It's good to know people.

A pair of Provy and DeAngelo is going to be interesting and likely a disaster in our end. I think we'll need to sign a dman. With what cap space I don't have any idea.

Which again scares me to death. Still need to sign Tippett, Frost, and shed JVR somehow. The JVR thing is a nightmare because you just KNOW Chuck is going to send out yet ANOTHER valuable draft pick to make the deal happen along with probably having to retain salary.

Not if they both end up in Philly. It also rids the Flyers of 3 large contracts. I think it’s an over pay…but it’s a re-set. Anything they do is going to look painful.

JVR, the Panthers 3rd in 2023 and your 1st in 2024 to the Hawks for Tampa’s 2nd in 2023.
- Ztra

Freeing up 7 million in cap space for one year is never worth a high 1st round pick...unless it's McDavid or on that level, otherwise just derpy.

Maybe people are eager to get rid of a 1st rounder that ends up as a superstar for another team so they can complain about it later?

How exciting would that be to trade away the next Forsberg for Erat!!!

I agree. I'd rather play the LTIR cap dance than send assets walk. No prize for winning the cap cup. Even buyouts are better.

I am glad to hear that Fletcher is seemingly refusing to include a first to move JVR. Now if he had a second round in any of the next two years that might get it done. But alas his fetish for top 6 RHD defenseman has used those up.

So what else gets moved if he holds firm on not trading his first rounder to off load JVR? TK and Atkinson are the only two that have a big enough cap hit to make an impact. I would be shocked if they traded Provy. There defense is not in good shape to begin with.

I think they trade JVR (salary retained) and 3rd for essentially nothing. Then they trade TK to recover some draft assets. Then sign Gaudreau. That is my prediction.

If I'm not mistaken, teams can spend over the cap by 10% in the off season, no?

I could see chuck doing that and then worrying about cap compliance in the future.

So JVR doesnt need to be moved right now, but poop would need to be resolved before the end of the off season.

Not saying he’s not a good player but tkatchuk is going to get money like he’s top of the food chain, you watch him in the playoffs?

No player’s point totals stay steadily in the hundreds year after year. Tkachuk is legit and he’ll be fine.

I have serious doubts that Ellis is going to be ready to start the season and if he is, if he can stay in the lineup. So if the Flyers want to be a good team, they have to know how weak that right side of the defense is. Realistically if they want to be a good team. You're right, they need another RH shot defenseman at least in the short term. I agree, Attard would benefit from some AHL time.
