I am not upset they didn't sign him. I am upset that a top free agent wanted to come here and they could not sign him because of poor cap management.

Why didn't they Joe? Not because they found better judgement and decided against it. They didn't because they couldn't. They boxed themselves in and couldn't make the deals they mistakenly thought that they could to get the cap space.

What we've learned today is they really have no idea if Ellis is done or not, and don't dare to spend based on any assumptions.

There's also no market for JVR without the 2023 1st right now.

Market for Provorov also must not be that great.

The issue is that all the moves me made in 2022 have prevented us from getting JG. When you weight the choices between what we got and what it cost us, we not only lost out on JG, but we could have had him and instead spent that money on nonsense.

I hear you in that we spent on nonsense, but I was pointing out that a majority (including me) didn't want us to go for JG bc of the money, length of contract, etc. Yes, we could've spent the money on JG but what purpose would it serve? We'd be a bubble team perhaps and then many would be pissed bc we missed out on a potential stud draft pick.

One big reason: this team is unwatchable and has no star players…not good for the bottom line.

It is certainly a better idea than Hayes, JVR, TK, Provorov, Ellis, Risto, or the two players we signed today.

The fact is even if the deal isn’t dead, CF needs to clear cap space, which he should have done by now. Someone wanted a 1st rounder to take JVR off our hands? He needs to clear space right now, but any fool can see that if JG isn’t signed yet that they can put CF through the ringer…and the longer it goes the more obvious it would be.

I guarantee that you weren't told it was a done deal and I knew that the day you first posted it. That is your hyperbole. You had good information and you blew it. All you had to say was the truth. That Gaudreau and his wife want to play in Philly and that is their first choice. That they hope to make a deal. You still don't understand what is being said. You still don't understand the Flyers cap position. You don't understand the current NHL market. What I'm saying is not opinion. It is factual based on the Flyers current cap position and what they would have to do if they used the 10% overage to sign Gaudreau. What they would be risking. Those other teams are not risking anything. They are already set up to be compliant.
