Hey maybe JG signed with the jackets for this season only if the jackets agreed to trade him to Philly next season. Someone get ahold of JG wife and confirm

Please remind me were Trotz is coaching now.

He turned down 7 million to be the highest paid coach in NHL history. That is what matters.

Fletcher saying that they were never in on Gaudreau is a save face comment. Multiple high level trusted sources claimed otherwise. Sources that weren't able to talk to his wife.

Fletcher stating that players like Deslauriers are hard to find shows how incompetent this GM truly is. If the analytics department recommended the player. That's laughable.

Lol. That's the narrative because it's the only way this isn't Fletcher's fault. Hextall signed one contract that is still on this team, that's it. Even most of the NHL roster has been turned over.

They freed up 8.275 mill/yr when Giroux was traded. JG was signed for 9.8 mill. Giroux + Oscar gives them 11.5 mill. Where did all that money go?

They had to sign the worst forward in the league for 4 years (and according to fletcher, there was a bidding war for his services), etc...

Complain about the contract for one last victory lap, sure, but let's not act like it's preventing Fletcher from executing his master plan to outsmart the rest of the NHL GMs. The Flyers are currently over the cap for next year and still need to sign players, must be Hextall's fault.

- Flyers_01

I have an issue with the 4 years and 2 mil to high for that term. signing him is fine for they have and they need to protect the kids, they will be getting run over on a nightly basis. Kind of CF saying we will not be competitive for 4 years, that sounds about right. Sanheim will be one of the first to go at the deadline

Personally, this need to protect the kids is a bunch of nonsense. What kid was getting run over last year? Was Frost getting run at? Why don't other teams, including the top teams in the league have a player like that?

What "kids" are they protecting? They are not 18 or 19 year old players. Just a piss poor move any way you slice it.

Protect yeah overdone but there is a benefit to the kids like frost and the gang knowing that someone has their back. Truly more of a feel good but something a poop team can rally too

1500 comments. Flyers fans at least care I’ll say that. Might disagree on a ton of shyt, but this day is one of the very best days in flyers free agent day history.

Who in their right might thought spending 70 mill on Johnny hockey was a good idea? I don’t buy for a second that Fletcher wanted him anyway. Devils prob running the number up on Philly. Not confident they wanted him either as either team could have figured out 9.5 mill. Who objectively can look at this team and think - sure let me drop 70 mill and a huge chunk of my cap on a winger at almost 39 years old?

You want to criticize them for giving the goon penalty killer 2 mill - that’s fine, but not signing JG might have been the best move a flyers GM has done in a long time.

- Joe Nardone

Many on here stated it was a bad idea. The frustration, at least for me, is the lack of direction Chuck shows. If it's not time to bring in JG then it's not time to waste assets on dumping players and trading for players that you sign for two years. It wasn't the posters on this site the stated an aggressive retool.

I don't buy that Fletcher wasn't in on him. You're telling my they bought out OL to make room for ND and JB? Don't buy it.

It's bad asset management. Lindblom was a player with the potential to be a decent deadline chip to move for a future asset. That's what good teams do. How is this team in a position to keep giving away, through various methods, future draft picks?

Check Fletcher is literally by far the worst GM i have ever experienced as a fan. He is Mike Milbury bad.

Just a reminder that it was Chuck that added Kevin Hayes 7x7, RR 5x5, Deangelo 2x5, prematurely gave Farabee 6x5, traded for Ryan Ellis 6x6.25 remaining, and gave Carter Hart a massive raise after one of the worst goaltending seasons in recent history.

But I guess you could blame everything on Hexy and JVR...

- Tomahawk

Some people just have a hard on for blaming everything on Hextall. Guy has been gone for going on 4 years, but only that player prevented Chuck from getting JG. This place is nuts.

Look on the bright side, maybe they looked at the cost for JVR and Johnny and said no, we are just there now. All that and still capped out, admission of incompetence. Hope, they hold the line and shed cap and players as the season moves along. Players like Sanheim, tk deserve a fresh start

Add Hart to the list. I don't know why any of the players would re-sign here. If I was Sanheim, I'd say 'see ya' at the end of the year.

The best part is "Let me make a phone call and get the latest". " They're just waiting for Philly to clear space, that's why he hasn't signed yet" "It's still a done deal". Meanwhile the GM is holding a press conference stating that they are done in free agency and are out on Gaudreau. It's priceless. Not to mention his clueless understanding of the salary cap.

This has your back approach doesn't hold any water in 2022 imo. WTF is he really going to do? You htink other teams will now be like oh crap we better watch what we do now. Flyers are tougher.

Thsi is coming from a someone who misses dearly the 4th line goon squad and #6 dmn who can fight.

Everyone ok today?

IN a way we all got what we wanted, Chuck is doing a soft tank instead of an aggressive retool.

I guess we all were sort of expecting JG to be signed here somehow and were shocked and surprised when it didn't happen. But on a good nights sleep maybe we realize that was a good thing.

The Deslauriers signing makes no sense 1year...ok, but 4 years is just stupid. Especially after getting rid of Lindblom. And seeing what Lindblom ended up signing for they couldn't work out a trade?

I don't know.

I'm fine with Braun, they need a cheap vet 3rd pair guy to play with York.

Ellis is done.

Frost and Tippett still need to be signed.

I think they also HAVE to sign Zac Attack because they qualified him.

One of the worst teams in the league and in cap hell. What could be better in this draft year?

See, this why I'm not okay. He's not attempting to do a soft tank. He just blew it and couldn't pull off what he wanted to do. Another thing, don't believe that he completely done. He may be with free agency but guaranteed he is still working the phones.

Chiairot, Maata, Gudbranson, Maons, Zadorov all better plyers than RR and all making less money and term.

Don’t you recall when you played and your team was owned on the ice by others. Whether it is metal or physical intimidation or just shxt talking, over 82 games it will add up. I am not saying this is huge, the contract sucks but there is a little on ice value there
