Hey Sam, I like how you stole a line from the Kevin Costner film Draft, "We live in a much different world since then"! Sounds like when Tom told Sonny the price for the Number one pick in the draft went from (3) Number 1's to (3) Number 1's plus a second!

Sam forget about Tkachuk going to the Devils, he is going to do the same thing as Johnny Hockey, like the movie, "GOING HOME" to be a Blue!

I could see JG fitting in nicely with the Devils, but the only worry would be obviously cap hit vs production AND being too top heavy like Toronto. When it's time will they be able to get the depth they need to polish up for a run?

Defense has a nice balance and tons of speed/scoring for the East, but goaltending will ultimately be the biggest question over the next few years. I love Blackwood though.

Don't get me wrong, I would love him on the team but I don't know about the cap issues this would cause a couple years down the road.

That's the thing, the way this team is currently set up cap won't be an issue down the road. We could spend up to the cap ceiling this season, and we will still have ~30M in cap space next offseason. And this is before the cap is expected to have a sizeable increase. They have plenty of space in the future to keep everybody and still add pieces.

Still not sold on this being the best move, but I can’t deny feeling some excitement. Palat would be just fine as consolation and maybe make more sense.. idk.

We have one of the highest rated farm systems in the league and have locked up all core franchise pieces long term. We don't have to worry about Nico, Jack or Dougie and wouldn't have to worry about Johnny if we land him for many years. Then fill out the rest of the roster with strong young farm system talent every year like Chicago did in the 2010s.

Shero and Fitzy have done an AMAZING job setting this team up for long lasting success. Even if we sign Johnny to $10.5/yr we'd still have another $16M this season and no one major to resign for at least 6-7 years from now. We are now and will be for awhile flush with cap space.

Why do i have a super strong gut feeling that Philly is going to do some cap clearing at the very last minute and sign Gaudreau lol. They technically dont even need to clear cap before signing him, but that would just make things even harder on them then they apparently already are.

Haula was way more than I expected. I thought it was gonna be like a 4th or 5th round pick. Haula is a great addition to the bottom 9 here.

LOL you're not wrong Theres our 3C though that i was interested to see if Fitzy tried to upgrade. Should provide more stability to the 3rd line.
