they sure like him a lot. Beck at #33 was a good pick and they had Mesar higher on their list.

also, not sure what Hughes is expecting in return for Petry, perso a 2nd rounder would do just fine.

I think you are missing the point - those were salary dumps, for the most part, teams had to make to get under the cap.

Habs are not forced to make those deals, so they can sit back and wait for someone to get desperate - either with injuries, underperforming teams, or trade deadline wants.
