Columbus has long deserved a moment like this? Why? They had Nash. They had Panarin. They had their playoff run. What a waste. Guy chooses to take less money, to live further from home, and play on a perpetually bad team. Makes no sense.

This is different then those guys, Nash was drafted by Columbus, Panarin was traded to Columbus, this is a top tier player who has options to play elsewhere and make more money to boot, and said I want to be a Columbus Blue Jacket.
Also Ohio is closer to NJ then Calgary is so he wasn’t lying.

You will need to lose more than Nyqvist. You still have Bemstrom and Blackenburg to sign. And Gavrikov might be very good, granted, but the D still lacks at least one top 4, maybe two. Boqvist, Bean and Gudbranson are not top 4 dmen, at least not a this point for Boqvist and Bean.

Actually you could trade Boqvist back to Chicago along Nyqvist and Roslovic for Seth Jones

I think Johnny signing in bum(frank) Columbus for less money than Calgary offered is more a tell of the state of Canada and how it has been over the last couple years. Guys can just not wait to leave and return back to normalcy.

Going back further...Flyers trading for Risto was a mistake. They didn't want to admit that so then foolishly signed him to that extension.

Could have bought out JVR. But failed to do it.

Instead of $5M on DeAngelo you could have looked at a guy like Justin Schultz for half the price. Oilers would have gladly sent over Tyson Barrie and eaten some salary. There were cheaper options to plug in a short-term offensive d-man for 2 years.

Total mismanagement. Love it though.

It's why every single quality of life survey has Canada near the top and the US floating around with Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. That's the reason a majority of Canadians do not support your cousin (frank)er convoys and think you're a bunch of entitled princesses. Yes, majority. Being able to take children to school or attend a concert without having to consider anyone being shot to pieces is a nice perk.
