Lol...player coaches, love the idea.
- bluemoon737

Perfect plan, they can play for a minimum player salary, and they can fluff up the coaching money to make sure they get paid.

Do you not understand loyalty? Bergy in particular bleeds black and gold. Believe it or not, some people do sometimes do things for reasons other than money.
- bluemoon737

There's a difference between loyalty and charity.

Bergy owes the team nothing. A hometown discount for him would be 6-7M. he'd get a lot more on open market.

Not sure why you think Krecji would take a deep discount either. If he was to leave his home and family, it would not be for 2-3M like some have suggested. He could have had a lot more than that just by re-signing last year. What has changed that would entice him to sign now, for less????

I think that Patrice in particular would understand that he isn't going to be asking for 7M.

AND If he did want to be paid 7M, i don't think he would wait until free agency to tell the Bruins that. If he wanted 7M they would have purged more than Haula at this point.

Patrice also has many more avenues of making money with the Boston Bruins after he is done with hockey.

Krejci probably just played for pennies to play in Czech to be with his family so I don't think money is the main priority. If he was looking for a last payday, i think he would be actually testing free agency. He's not really in a position of power at this point. The Bruins don't have the cap room and he just played in a league lesser than the AHL.

- Mahewman

Not easy to "purge" salaries in the NHL, and Haula was a reasonable cost comparted to Coyle, Foligino or Forbert.

You've still not explained why they would do so...
- Nasty_Duck

I feel like I have over explained why I think they would sign cheap deals at this point.

Krejci on the open market probably gets 4M. Why is a 2M contract with bonuses out of the realm of possibility in your mind?

He’s not a 6-7 million dollar player anymore.

I can see both Bergy and Krejci signing identical bonus laden deals if they do choose to come back.

IF it happens for both of them, I am guessing it will be in the area of 1.5-2.5m salary with up to an additional 3-4m in performance bonus'. Most of the PBs will be easy to hit, but could see an additional mil or so being provided if the bruins make it to the conference finals or some poop like that.

STILL WAITING ON MY CROW FEAST. Get your net Bluemoon, im hungry already.

The only reason the bruins can sign both of them is because they would take bonus laden veteran .contracts with easily attainable bonuses. ( games played etc). That pushes the cap hit to next year. That’s why Sweeney can’t get anybody if they don’t sign. Then he would have to trade salary to pay . He doesn’t want to trade his stars debrusk and Grzelyck.

Good luck filling in the team following year with that much carry-over.

Swayman and Pasta will need new contracts, right?

Yeah. Never said it wouldn't hurt, but that is my best guess at it IF Sweeney can pull it off.

We will see what happens. If Swayman has a good year this year, I can see him getting a bridge in the 4-5m range maybe. Wouldn't be surprised to see pasta north of 10m. Its all gonna be a cap nightmare and we have the perfect GM to handle it.

I think the bonuses will be more in the wheel house 3-4 million combine for the two of them. Not each.

If they want more trade Foligno to the Blackhawks for futures. They need NHL bodies that won't win games.

The takes in this thread are straight off the WEEI caller line lmao. If Bergy and Krejci want to come back, they’ll be back. That will determine if this is gonna be one last kick at the can or year one of a rebuild. Stop whining about the cap. There are salaries that can be moved or buried. There’s like 18M going on ltir to start the season. The team can go 10% over the cap in the off-season before using ltir. They can defer money to next year with bonuses. Why are we acting like there’s no money? That’s such a lazy take

Foligno isn't an NHL body. He is barely more alive than a corpse.

Stick to XBOX or PS4 - will be much easier for you to ice a team there in 2023-2024.

The CAP kinda does matter. Sweeney isn't smart enough to "game it".

I’m just wondering. If Patrice and Krejci both sign and the Bruins are magically cap compliant.

Will you admit you were incorrect?

Edit: A Part of me is very skeptical of Krejci returning. He did abandon the cause last year so I would be surprised if he's back in the fold this year. Money wise, they could find a way though.

Do you understand that the reason they will be cap compliant is because the bonuses won’t count until next year. What happens to your deep reset with no money next year. Sweeney can’t add to this team because of the cap and if Bergy and Krejci
don’t sign nobody else is going to come in with a veteran bonus laden contract. Trades are the only option .

No, no they won’t. This thread is full of “fans” who don’t realize that the bruins have been a top 5 franchise the last 10 years and think they’re the smartest person in the room. Jeremy Jacobs is still the boogeyman. Every cup run was luck. If you’re not hating you’re a pink hat though, right!?!? This management group has made countless mistakes. I don’t love them. Doesn’t mean they’re the worst and incapable of making good moves

Bruins have 24M that off-season to re-sign Pasta and Swayman (not counting Zacha cap hit) That’s not including the Forbort, Reilly, Gryz, Ulmark contracts all of which can be easily moved at that point. It’s gonna be a rebuild at that point anyway so “filling” the roster is not a concern

What salaries can be buried ? You can trade salary but you can only take back salary that fits under the cap . And the Ltir is good only until those players come back . Last year Sweeney added players he thought would make a big difference. They didn’t. This year he can’t add by signings or by trading futures or young low salaried players for established higher salaried players. Why ? The CAP

Of course I will admit I am wrong. It would be awesome for the Bruins.

I just don't have faith it will happen - based on the management we currently have.
