As a rookie, Frederick really got my hopes up, but he really didnt get much better, maybe new coach will be good for him.

Montgomery has a different style so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I want the kid to be successful but to me Frederic's ceiling is probably the third line. New coach is supposed to be good with younger players, guess he will have a test on his hands.

I think he should have had more impact than he did. If he can get into the 30-40 point realm as a 3rd liner than that is decent production and depth. Coyle, Smith and Frederic should be a very good third line.

You specifically started at 2017 to make your point. Even though 2016 was a good draft.

2 of the four years. The Bruins didn't have a first round pick. They also had last pick in one of them.

Now go run the same report on other teams that draft late and have been contending since 2017. Go check out how many players the Tampa Bay Lightning, Penguins, Maple Leafs, Washington, Blues, Flames have had skating regularly since 2017.

All of those teams are drafting players that will help a few years down the road. Mason Lohrei and Lysell are looking to be very promising picks. We should start to see Beecher this year but he's likely going to be in the wheelhouse of Studnicka unfortunately.

- Mahewman

Well our 2017 first round draft pick played a total of 20 games and was packaged along with another 1st round pick to get Lindholm.
2018 1st round went for a rental - Rick Nash.
2019 was... Beecher
2020 first round was... sacrificed to dump David Backes?
2021 was... Lysell
2022 - see 2017

For the 2017-2022 1st round draft picks all the Bruins have to show for it are 1 player with NHL experience and 1 prospect.

You wanna go back to 2016 and bring up Charlie M? Great. I counter with 2015

You think that's a good record?

Instead of focusing on the obvious from 2015, look at the actual entire draft and it is actually a decent draft class. And I'll also point out that two of the three first rounders are starters. Granted, not what "could have been" but still. If you want to call Vladar a starter in the NHL (pretty sure he was all last season), then that makes 5 current NHL starters out of that draft class...most teams would be very happy with that return.

If Frederic is capable of 30-40 points, my vote would be to dump coyle if that's even possible. Pay Frederick 1.25m less and promote or shuffle a scoring winger on that line. Might be a decent place for lysell to start once the team is healthy

DeBrusk is a regular.

Are you pinning your hopes on Zboril as a regular? I know D-men develop more slowly than others... but come on. He was drafted in 2015. It's not like Bruins are just filled with all-stars keeping him off the roster.

Bruins would have to eat signif % of salary or lose more draft picks (see Backes, David)

Zboril was a starter until his ACL injury last season. And playing pretty well too.

Most likely. He is probably stuck for a few more years which is unfortunate. Wish we could just shovel him off to a team like anaheim who needs to get to the floor and send a 2nd rounder with him for futures and be done with it. Wishful thinking

Coyle and Backes aren't really comparable in my opinion. Backes was a lot older at the time and had a lot less production.

Coyle has had a large chunk of his cash paid out already. 5.25 isn't really an albatross for a player that can play anywhere in the lineup. He could be moved if they wanted to but he's the only center on the roster going forward so i doubt they are even looking at moving him.

Who cares about the cash? A 5.25M Cap-hit IS an albatross, regardless of your "optimistic" evaluation of him. He's a 2C-light, more realistically a 3C.

Bruins would move on from him if they could. Haula was a much better bargain - but of course Sweeny made the wrong decision - again.

If you look around the league. That is pretty much on par with what 2nd/3rd line centers are making.

Centers with similar cap hits. Backlund, Henrique, Bryan Little, Frans Nielsen, Joel Erikson Ek, Nuge, Pageau, Strome, Coleman, Gourde, Marchessault.

I would prefer a few players on the list over Coyle, without a doubt but for the most part. He belongs in that range. Id prefer a player with a higher motor but overall Coyle is decently solid.

I don't love the contract by any means. It's just not that overpaid. Ideally he should be around 4.25-4.50 but he got paid after a decent playoff run.

Really wish the Bruins were in a position of strength to go after Tkachuk.

So the Bruins added an NFL "offensive guru" to the coaching staff.

Ohhhh, John Gruden, not Jon Gruden...

Wouldn't mind seeing "Chuckie" behind the bench though.

Time to bring Shawn Thornton back. Let him toughen up the offense a bit.

I would love a Patrice or Pasta signing this week. This offseason has been lackluster to say the least.
