Does a day or a page go by where you don't brag about knowing Rick D. What a claim to fame... - boonerbuck
I live a comfortable, happy life, I don't need to brag about it. I am grateful however for the wonderful people I've come across along the way. You, not so much.

Did Rick teach you to constantly lie or did you teach him? Or did you guys hook up because of this commonality?
There were a few of us that wanted Hague, that year, several didn't like him.
Not sure what your stance on him was. - Reubenkincade
I don’t remember either. All I know is that I was never big on Lind. His scoring profile just screamed tweener. Not fast, not strong, not super skilled.
I do know that I was one of the people who used to be on the “draft bpa, I don’t care about position” but I’ve changed my stance on that

I've always been in the camp of draft for need unless the BPA is significantly better.

1st round bpa, 2nd and 3rd round defensemen and centres.
Take a look at the defensemen the Canucks could have had a chance at, in the 1st round of 2020 draft.

I would be okay with that if you had a few can't miss prospects in the system, but when you have a pretty empty cupboard, I still say you take bpa in the 1st round.
I’m bpa F 1st round. Prefer C but a true sniper W works. Takes a pretty good RHD to change my mind. 2nd 3rd rounds I want D with size that skate good to great. After that projects that have 1 great skill but must have character. Hope is for a late bloomer so I like USHL & Europe prospects in these rounds.

I look at it like go for BPA but if your need is significantly more critical, then draft position/player type. Outside of the top 10 at least. I'm pretty firm on BPA with the high picks in the 1st round.
Of course if the cupboards are bare of prospects and your line up is lacking of young players... BPA makes the only sense. Goes without saying...
I know people hate Drance, but Bieksa was on his podcast yesterday and was great on it. Was recommended to me by a friend to listen to it and it was a fun listen. Worth downloading, he had a couple of fun stories about the team when he was a Canuck that I don't think have been told before.

Yeah, it was funny and informative. Like it or not, Drance is actually pretty well respected by actual hockey people, even if fans think he’s a douche.

I ended up watching some old youtube videos of that 2011 team after listening to that podcast, people call that team soft, but they'd bully any Canuck team iced in the last 5 years. They were told to play softer than they were by AV/Gillis, but in G7 against Chicago you could tell that they were sick of that poop and just wanted to (frank) them up
They didn't have many undersized players unlike the current team.
Would love to have a time machine and see that team play against the current canucks in a 7 game series Bigger, faster, smarter, would be a bloodbath

2011 Canucks were a dominant team. Best ever team in our history. Injured Kesler & Burrows was what it took for the Bruins to get past us other than the gutless refs.

Lots of talk of Tkachuck on his way out as well...
The division is up for grabs this season. - boonerbuck
I called Johnny leaving years as at his RFA deal he wanted out. Best thing for CGY IMO would be to get that clown tool Tkachuk off to STL or wherever. With 20 mil off the books opens up massive possibilities for the Flames. Plus now they can acquire players who can actually preform in the PO's. Plus players who have the Hockey sense to let the puck just go in the net on it's own rather than kicking it in.

Not that soft. We had Bieksa, Torres and Lappy who could pretty much go with anyone at that time. Rome as well. AV changed the dynamics relying too heavily on the PP and got away from mean hockey as each series went on. Once the Rome hit occurred...everything changed and AV and players didn't adapt to what the refs were allowing the bruins to get away with. Plus the Lou choke didn't help...

Would have to agree. Regardless of injuries, Loungo choke, Garys boys and other factors that club was sooooo good they should have technically found a way to win. Honestly the Bruins of that year had absolutely no business being on the same ice surface as that unreal Canuck roster. AV was outcoached in the finals and if they would have stuck with the strategy of letting Lappy, Torres, Bieksa running around punishing guys and Rome and Hamhuis were healthy and in the lineup I think we find a way to win. Again with AV relying on the PP that dried up we were screwed. But it was nice of Gary and Campbell to make rule changes during the SCF so Rome would be out for the full series...

If you are picking top 5-10 sure BPA can make some sense. Outside of that fill your needs.
