The play here according to the staff is the development of the young players still serve as additional wins, more so than any one or two free agents. Combined with the additional wins provided by a 910 goalie and a defender who can actually defend, you're looking at additional (and unproven ) SPAR.

You should expect more from Tage, Krebs, Cozens, Dahlin, Power, Samuelson, Mittelstadt and Olofsson.

The only people with fire and pitchforks is the crowd demanding why we didn't sign Copp or trade for Cat or get Burka.

I'm content with our moves.

I'm extrely excited about Comrie, but that is a complete wildcard.

I also don't like the 2 year deal on that, if you are going to take the gamble, do it for more than 2 years.

Buffalo outside of Skinner and Tuch has every single player expiring in 2 years.

Then we can sign all the free agents

How much of a step is Cozens taking? What is Krebs what is Mitts, Tage going to regress or progress or stay the same. Is Tuch a .8ppg player or a .6ppg player. Quinn and JJ ready for the NHL? Where is Samuelsson at, What steps has Power taken?

Young team with Question marks everywhere.

You don't make 6 signings like Detroit when you have these questions to be answered

- DirtyDan

Correct. This is a prove it year for many Sabres. We could see 3-4 traded away next summer if they regress or don’t show improvement, then we pull a Detroit, Ottawa

This is terrible logic. If he is a revelation then you extend him. If UPL is a revelation then he is a cheap backup. If both suck then you go find another guy and you aren't saddled with a bad contract.

Also, many of those expiring contracts are rookie contracts and thus not UFA.

detroit added husso, copp, kubalik, perron, chiarot and maatta

that's 6 decent additions w/o giving up any assets other then a 3rd round pick for the rights to husso

- homiedclown

If that's the case though, you are trading away players for pennies on the dollar.

so instead of the gamble of it to swing to include them for an established player, you're now trading them for a 3rd rd pick.

That's their plan. My question is: what happens if Detroit and Ottawa pass Buffalo this season? I don't see how that can be sold as progress.

Maybe it won't happen, though. Maybe the kids make a jump and they're good. Time will tell

I don't get the obsession with Detroit and Ottawa. Everyone is doing their build their own way and on different timelines. If they pass us this year, so what? They could pass us and we both still make the playoffs. We seem to want to analyze every move and say that because team x made move y then they must be better than us. The truth is that - according to Adams plan - everyone will keep getting a little bit better. There is no reason to draw lines in the sand with certain players or anything like that. There will be opportunity for trades and to call up more kids - everyone will be continuously evaluated.

That’s the gamble you take on every draft pick, prospect trade. Some pan out, some get moved to bottom 6 in checking roles, some get moved for 3rd round picks

It's not desperate, it's filling out his lineup short term. Only difference there is we have young guys to fill out. He doesn't, completely.

I expect there is a very good chance that could happen. The biggest question is what is the measure of a successful season? What defines “we accomplished what we wanted to” and “blow it up”?

Detroit and Ottawa aren't passing us.

They were never behind us. 1 and 2 pts behind us is literally the same place.

We "passed" them last year by peoples standards here. While also trading AWAY our 2 best players. And we actually finished 10-20 pts behind both the year prior.

I am a homer Sabres Fan for sure, but with the addition of JJ, Quinn, Powers, the tender and the D-man, I really do think we can compete on a nightly basis with anyone in the league. Tage will hit 30 again. his shot is deadly. Of he shoots 5 times a game and scores at 8-10% he will get 30-40 goals. I can see our top line of Tallness, Tuch and skinman all scoring 30 each.

This team is really starting to remind me of 2005-2006 (minus the tender) If we do get good, watch out because we will be good for YEARS...

It sort of reminds me of the off-season where Botterill brought back the entire crew minus Pominville, added Mojo and thought that the team was golden.
- Hank Balling

This really doesn't feel different?

Just throw away march 1st - end of April hockey?

Botts was terrible

The Sens and Wings had questions and they tried to answer them. The Sabres decided to leave the questions as questions for now, which is fine if it works. We'll see which approach works better
- Hank Balling

I'm not following you, which spots did the Sabres have available?

Actual spots, where we see 100% sure the guy needs replacing?

Or add veteran leadership?
