Opening night lineup is mostly a JB team. Was he terrible? - Lunaion
on the margins, absolutely. But perhaps not as bad without Krueger.
Also worth mentioning that although Tage is a botterill guy, his move to C is an Adams/Granato bit.
Ditto Dahlin on the right if that works out well. |

Do the Sabres feel compelled to sign or trade for 6 new pieces out of 20 players in july? No
Botts sucked but the good players are good regardless of who drafted who.
Dahlin is a mega star in waiting?
Does that mean that botts is good? - Boss34
You called him terrible. Just don't think it's black and white. KA is basically following the same plan, and benefitting from what JB has done far more than JB benefitted from TM. Biggest difference is that there's 0 pressure on KA. |

Leaving aside his history of milquetoast moves that never moved the needle, he hired the worst coach in franchise history which, even taken by itself, is enough to call his tenure terrible |

pressure from the owners to win now after signing off on the trickle up plan botts had did not help
cinncy was a much better team once botts took over as was rochester
that was one of the many downfalls from tim murray, not giving a sh!t about the minor league teams
botts also said he was going to develop a fast pest team that was difficult to play against
the problem was, the players botts brought in after getting that pressure did not in any way work with the team botts envisioned at the presser
vessey, simmonds, wilson, sobotka, berglund, montour, scandella, pommer, lazar, sheahan, dot dot dot |

The Sabres have signed defenseman Lawrence Pilut to a one-year, $750,000 contract. Two-way deal. He's back with Buffalo after two seasons in the KHL. |

My lasting memory is that while the Sabres squandered another Eichel year and fans clamored for the Sabres to get a real center, he took 4 months to land Frolik and then acted like the proudest boy on the planet during the press conference |

Except none of those guys are fast, like at all. Lazar maybe a bit, but the rest are/were some of the slowest guys in the league
Edit: Or was that your point? |

And most of those trades and signings were made because we had nothing in are pipeline to fill areas of need on the roster. |

last team to win the cup with almost everyone drafted within was the early 80's oilers who already had perhaps the greatest player ever on their team in the whl - homiedclown
Stamkos, Kucherov, Point, Cirelli, Killorn, Palat, Colton, Joseph, Hedman, Vasilesky all drafted and developed by Tampa.
Gourde and Johnson went undrafted but were developed within their AHL systems.
That’s like 90% of the reason Tampa won two cups.
They also don’t get Sergachev without an asset in Johnathen Drouin that they drafted 3rd overall |

again if this team gets 65 points next year
what do you do
still waiting for the first answer from the people with fire and pitchforks - homiedclown
Draft Bedard, Michkov, or Fantilli and fill the last remaining glaring hole the team has in a legitimate Superstar 1C.
I would then make the moves Detroit made this year. Bring Kane home if need be |

Sure, and for the most part Tampa could have found other names to fill those spots and still won 2 cups |

Getzlaf and Perry - Pegullaville
Selanne, Pronger, and Niedermayer would like a word.
1, 5, and 3 regular season scoring
T2, T2, 8 in playoff scoring
Hell, Rob Niedermayer was 9 in playoff scoring
Edit: Only 3 of their top 10 point getters in the playoffs were draft picks |

But the point is that they didn't have to go outside and spend big money. And nobody is saying that is the only way to do it, it just happens to be the best and most likely way to get there.

Even better is when you trade away 2 homegrown star players for a 2nd liner and some scratch offs. |

Pilut is waiver exempt for 5 more NHL games. Might hurt his chances to make the team out of camp. |
