They have no need to make trades or large FA signings at this time. They do have the young makings of a top 9 forward group and top4 defense core, and in 1-2 years adding a large FA to compliment would have large returns. However at this time, it would likely be a waste of money and ice time.

Detroit has holes to fill
Buffalo has spots to grow into. Next 1-2 years it will be obvious how the young talent has developed and then they can address by FA

Yea but wouldn’t signing a UFA or making a trade next year block Savoie, Ostlund and Kulich?

Do you really believe that will be the situation?

It’s a linear path. The mismanagement to date makes it seem like a neverending cycle; but your question is a Groundhog Day theory, and doesn’t fit into a linear plan with a goal.

Could you see a scenario where a young prospect, maybe such as one of the three you mentioned, be possible trade bait for a nice shiny UFA to enter the playoffs with an edge?

You called him terrible. Just don't think it's black and white. KA is basically following the same plan, and benefitting from what JB has done far more than JB benefitted from TM. Biggest difference is that there's 0 pressure on KA.

Disagree, botts brought in guys like vesey , johannsson, and the scrubs like sobatka.

Ka has signed and resigned vinny h

Different vibe completely now.

And then some. JBotts was trying to fill in some of the bottom 6 as we were regularly getting rolled over there. In a way it kind of reminds me of what some of you wanted Adams to do this offseason. I think the difference back then was that we had our franchise center in place and we really didn't have much to speak of in Roch. Unfortunately the vets he brought in were mostly scrubs.

Until the Sabres prove that they know how to do that, that's all it's been is Groundhog Day for 12yrs.

That’s just a complaint.

It’s new management with a decent vision.
KA might be like a Darcy, but if Darcy ( and KA) weren’t handcuffed with a restraining budget, they have potential to make a winner.

Pegulas got fooled by the Murray initially. The current direction makes sense, albeit longer than anyone wanted. We can b!tch and moan a little longer if you like tho.

Yes it's a complaint. But it's a truthful one. The biggest win this offseason so far is Adams signed Olofsson for more than 1yr. Fantastic are prospect pool got stronger, but it was ranked number 1 already. Good Hockey teams don't stop adding talent because there afraid to block someone, it just gives good teams more usable assets.

i think you can squarely put this on the fact that Adams nailed sticking with Granato as opposed to two lame duck coaches in Housley and Krueger

(shrug) and based on the roomers Adams was out there aggressively trying to get some stuff done. It only became an issue because of the calendar. It wouldn't surprise me to see a hockey trade at some point. But what do you move? If we traded a guy like Mitts we are selling low (especially since he seemed to have turned a corner before getting hurt last year). We don't have a Kassian or Gratton hanging around.

In hindsight it was all bad - the GMs, coaches and apparently the locker room. I don't think it is a coincidence that everyone goes out of their way to say how great it is to be around the team now.

Right, but consider the following:

- Mitts still might become what we hoped he would be
- I feel worlds better about Johnson signing

That leaves picks and Portillo, who is worth a second rounder to us (if we lose him). Next year's first is really the only thing that I think we would be willing to part with (again, not wanting to sell low on Mitts).
