Pretty much saying that you are staying for now and doesn't matter what the Arbitrator numbers are. - Buff36

If Edzo is moving to Seattle, nobody must want him. Who’d want to live there? Top 3 worst places to live in the US:

Normally a #1 gets max bonuses. He didn't get close. Beniers got exactly the same. McTavish got a lot more. This year, Slaf got the max. I don't have an explanation. - Lunaion
Tradeoff for burning a year off his ELC at the end of last year? |

Could be. Can't think of a better reason.

The Calgary Flames have filed for club-elected arbitration with Matthew Tkachuk.
Tkachuk passed on the opportunity to file for arbitration himself, but the Flames decided to go that route. It's important to note that this doesn't prevent the Flames and Tkachuk from signing a contract on their own. As is the case with player filed arbitration, if the two sides can work out a deal before the ruling, then there's no need for an arbitrator to determine his next contract's value. However, because the Flames filed for arbitration, no team can present him with an offer sheet. That being said, the Flames are also taking a risk here. They now have to offer him at least $9 million in arbitration and an arbitrator could conceivably rule that he deserves more than that. What's more, if this comes down to an arbitrator ruling, then Tkachuk will be given a one-year contract, which will result in him being eligible to test the UFA waters next summer. |

Flames are in tough. Tkachuk and Mangiapane are like Briere and Dumont. Keep adding to the 23 UFA’s is fine by me. |

When the Colorado Avalanche quickly matched Calgary's offer sheet to Ryan O'Reilly on Thursday, they actually helped prevent a potentially costly situation for the Flames.
Calgary signed the 22-year-old center to a two-year $10 million offer sheet Thursday afternoon, and by evening the Avalanche had matched. As Chris Johnston of Rogers SportsNet first reported Friday morning, had the Avalanche not matched, the Flames would have yielded first- and third-round picks in the 2013 NHL Draft and O'Reilly would have had to be put on waivers.
Because O'Reilly played two games for Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League after the NHL season started, he would have been subject to the same provision that allowed the New York Islanders to claim Evgeni Nabokov after he signed a contract with the Detroit Red Wings during the 2009-10 season.
"Prior to tendering the offer sheet for Ryan O'Reilly we, as a hockey operations department, examined whether there were any impediments to our successfully securing the services of the player including, but not limited to, his having played in the KHL after the start of the current NHL season," Calgary general manager Jay Feaster said in a statement.

Let's hope he grabs on to this chance, and rolls with it. - Buff36
If what is written about him is accurate, then I love this signing more....sure, we can laugh at it but apparently he wants to be here.
Maybe players who want to be here work a bit harder at their game in order to stay here.
Sounds like a player who is solid and driven to get better and works hard to do so....hmm, common theme developing here with those traits.
And, his numbers, while a small sample size point to a higher probability of success. Looks like the Analytics Team may have uncovered a good target here.
Looks like he intends to run with it...now, is he good enough? |

We shall see. I hope he succeeds. But wanting to Be here and having a clear shot at the crease are 2 different things. He sounds good and hope he means it, but the opening in net had a good hand in him coming here too. |

Makes one wonder about Levi, Portillo, and Murray.
I'll give Levi a bit of a pass in that he truly marches to his own drum having made several curious decisions with respect to his career path forward in the past. |

I don't know, I am really not worried about Levi. He is gonna sign. I hate to keep saying this because it is obvious from players and people around the organization that the culture is changing, but it's pretty obvious that the outside world hasn't caught up yet. |

Sounds like he finally learned at 31 how much more valuable he was in the lineup rather than in the press box.
Like his production, but at age 32 to start the season, it would have to be a short term deal IMO.
He's probably trying to squeeze more term that what is being offered. |
