Calgary has turned down a offer of
Jordan kyrou
Torrey Krug
1st rounder
For
Matthew tkachik - Anderdog
I’m guessing Calgary doesn’t want the Cap hit of Krug
StL might have to find a way to get rid of Cap to a 3rd team |

no one is actually crying
And the posts calling out "the crying" are actually more of an overreaction then those with the "Different opinions"
but hey what do i know |

that failed because the roster was rounded with pathetic players like
gorges
falk
kulikov
franson
wilson
pouliot
beaulieu
nolan
josefson
griffith
scandella
top 2 lines were the best we have seen since the briere/drury days
bottom half of the roster was ahl worthy - homiedclown
now there's the clown i know.... all of the above is 100% correct, we are in a WAY better position to bring in the Next Kane BOGO and ROR.

I would happily Give, My first and 2nd next year, a goalie prospect (E.P) Quinn or Cozens and Mitts

Copp was paid market value but I don't think the type of player he is, is something the Sabres need, I believe Cozens will be him if not better
Johnny Hockey the Sabres aren't going to give him the 7 year term and contract at this point in time
DeBrincat not only cost assets to give you have to pay him $10 million on his next contract, see Johnny Hockey there
Kane isn't getting a 7 year deal, isn't getting anything longer than a 3-4 year deal (at most), is from Buffalo and won't prevent the Sabres in the long run from paying Power after his bridge deal expires (I believe that's the route they are going to go because not only would they have cap space opening from Skinner's contract coming off the books, if they were to sign Kane his would be coming off as well)
For saying fans only worry about the cap is flat out wrong. I've been listening to the Instigators podcast, and there have a lot of things to say about long term cap viability in Buffalo and several times they mentioned as much as they would have liked the Sabres to be more active in free agency this year, they understand what Kevyn Adams is doing and they know the Sabres are going to be shelling out some serious money in the next 18 months... - Stripes77
If they don't make a significant move, this is a cap floor team again next year and we'll be fed the same story....unless KA's flips some kind of switch and starts offering RFA's 8 year deals instead of bridges.

I like Tkachuk,
but that’s giving up quite a bit
We’d need an extension worked out in order to give up all that

I will, just as soon as we craft the letters to Tampa and Colorado telling them they did it wrong by building from within. Surely they didn't get the memo that you can just kick the can down the road. They are going to feel really silly. - Slump Buster
Colorado didn't build from within. |

The pick they drafted Makar was a trade
Kadri trade
Val - trade
Toews - trade
Compher - trade
Lehkonen- trade
Manson - trade
Drafted neither goalie

Their most impactful players were drafted.... Same with Tampa.
You round it out with trades and FA after.

I see what you are saying.
Maybe there are GMs who are good at big and effective trades and Kevyn is more of a draft and develop kinda guy. Just hope he can get the final pieces when needed in 2027.

On the flip side, he is from Buffalo.
Honestly the "team timeline" does kick off next year IMO of course. This year will be a see how ya got kinda year (yes, I'm well aware we all wanted that to be last year, but let's be real, it took half a season to clear the Kruger stank off this team). If we get: Tage being a 30/35 65 point center who shows progress at the all around center aspects, Skinner playing at least to his moderate pace (25 G), Tuch still being Tuch (most likely of these 3 happening), VO getting a fully healthy year, with Cozens and Krebs growth, who knows what can happen. Not calling playoffs, but moving out of the laughing stock portion of this league is something I think we all could be ok with to vary degrees. Add in the next wave of kids and Kane the following year Buffalo could start to make some noise. - SDSabre
The best season of the drought was an 81 point season under Disco Dan.
If they clear that incredibly low bar, it's progress |

Since we are on the Tkachuk discussion, assuming that he agrees to an 8 year sign and trade to come to Buffalo and assuming the package costs something along the lines of Quinn/JJ, 2023 1st (protected of course), Olofsson/Mitts etc.
Giving up young prospects besides Savoie to get him
Does the Sabres organization have the depth down the middle to be a legit contender with Tage, Cozens (assuming he isn't traded), Savoie, etc.?
The one major missing piece in my opinion is having either a true #1 center or even having that 1A/1B type the Sabres had with Drury/Briere.
Yes we need talent and grit which no doubt Tkachuk certainly has, but the lack of high caliber centers is the one piece (besides goalie) that the Sabres must get.

The longer this goes on, the less the return will be.
Again, not many teams have cap so Calgary is taking on bloated contracts from other teams to move him.
Unless you are trading form a position of strength from another team, which not many have.

This great return is based on a long term extension. How many teams is he really willing to extend with? Possible that it's just 1.

Said the exact same thing earlier today.
Like the player, wrong position IMO.
I also don't need my #1 player being the guy going to the box in order to get the physical side of the game in the F ranks either.
I do love watching him play though...would be fun.
We have wing prospects coming up over the next 3 -- 4 seasons, including C's who will fall out.
Go find a true 1C.

You confused Makar with Byram.
They finished dead last by 20 points and earned Makar.
Even with the Byram pick they acquired via trade, it was Matt Duchene they drafted 3rd overall.
The Avs were irrelevant for a decade and got a cup out of it.
Meanwhile Philly and Montreal have what to show for mediocrity ?

The price just went down. St. Louis likely gets it done if they replace Krug with a top D prospect in their org. |

4 impact players from the draft
bryam, newhook,
and lots of trades
so 1/4 of the roster was homegrown - homiedclown
Skinner, Tage, Tuch, Okposo, bjork, asplund was drafted though a trade, hinostroza
Joker, the Russian on D
Anderson and Comrie FA
Almost are whole roster right now is “not home grown”
Not sure where this idea of our whole roster is just draft picks is coming from |
