was trying to make a point described above.
- TheSabresTaco

My point is there’s no exact formula.

The Sabres are more than capable of winning a cup of their best player was a trade acquisition

There’s no rule it has to be a drafted core piece

I am really trying to turn that corner. I really don't understand some of it, but I am moving on. I think the Sabres missed a opportunity here with the assets they had, but I can also understand what Adams is doing. I just "HOPE", sick of that word in aspect to the Sabres it works.

In three years you'll need to buy out Skinner to fit JG. Which is probably a risk most of this board would take.

Some guys can command a room no matter the situation. He's universally respected and loved. All of that and he didn't even score 50 ptzzz
- TheSabresTaco

Hard thing to do with a bunch of 18 yr Olds. I will take 30pts as long as these kids take and grow from how Okposo handles himself. With there talent and his wisdom and work ethic could make for some good hockey players

"It would cost Buffalo over 11 million to sign Johnny Hockey."

Signs in Columbus for under 10 MIl.

Imagine having him on this team.

- ImThatGuy

I am fine they did not go after johnny, as in the long run that would be another skinner deal

copp however just turned 28 last week and a 5 year deal does fit the timeline

he would be 32 in the last year

you can argue if he is a second line player on a good team or not but he is an established center that is great on the pk and puts up 92 points in his last 127 games

he fits a need and does not hurt the salary cap in the big picture

There's certainly no rule. But other than (questionably) the Blues, all of these teams in the cap era have won because of their drafted core.

Chicago. LA. Pittburgh. Tampa. Washington. Bruins. Red Wings. Ducks.

Their draft picks were their best players. And all of them had complimentary trades/free agents assisting that core.

last team to win the cup with almost everyone drafted within was the early 80's oilers who already had perhaps the greatest player ever on their team in the whl

I think copp was more of what they needed as he is an all around guy where burakovisky is more of a 5 on 5 specialist

but either would help this team and their age and length of contract fits the timeline

Marian Hossa says hello

TJ Oshie was one of Washington’s best players hands down.

That’s off the cuff

It’s not that cut and dry

Let's keep in mind that some of the best coaches in the NHL were minor leaguers at best.

Jon Cooper never played the game at a professional level. John Tortorella and Don Granato were minor leaguers. Craig Berube was a gorilla. Sheldon Keefe and Bruce Cassidy were tweeners.

Being leaders does not require you to be an on ice champion.

I would argue fat boy Phil was the best player in the first of their back-to-backs. He didn't get the Smythe because he's unlikable. I don't think they win either of those cups without him.

For now. And someday I hope to amend my statement to say young core/young prospect trades.

colorado

goalie was a free agent
3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th best scorers up front were not drafted kadri, burakovsky, compher and nichuskin
3 of their 5 best d men were brought in on trades, toews, girard and manson

I can go down the list and probably find similar results

for 4 years

almost everyone was saying get copp

this week people wondering why we didn't go after copp got brow beated

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

- homiedclown

You're not gonna like this but, we have enough forwards.

The organization needs to see the mitts pick , injury free (if possible)
They would like to see selke asplund continuing his development

They need girgs and okposo for leadership

Copp type player next year, sure.

I love what the Sabres a finally doing. Building from within. Which is convenient, considering no one from outside wants in anyways.....

I'm not implying anything, I'm just asking your opinion.

Are you trading Casey to sign Strome to a 2 year deal? 3?

Why do we have to trade Casey?

How about Strome goes in for Bjork
