With Poehling gone, Habs no longer have any of the guys they picked in the first round between 2006 and 2018.
If I could fire Timmins again, I would. |

even I'm not that optimistic...
but I do feel the building process will go a bit quicker than anticipated. - Pat1993
imho, Habs will make the playoffs when their core of young players (Guehle, Barron, Primeau, Caufield, Slafkovsky....) will be mature. so minimum 3 years. adding a big piece wouldn't make things go faster. kids need to learn, develop |

I feel as though montreal has adopted him and he's embraced the city as his home. He won't see the playoffs, but a transition to the front office may allow him to announce top 10 picks for the next 5-10 years. - mr.peanut
yeah, that ship has sailed, the love story between him and MTL is clearly a thing of the past.
just imagine all the qwerky possibilities for leafs jerseys if Subban collaborates with Justin Bieber to come up with new designs... |

A few more Top 10 picks would help fill up our roster nicely. |

His first move could be to gift all his habs teammates those goal celebrations t shirts he used to wear in the dressing room |

ohh right, I think I recall you mentioning this.. I'd be really curious to hear what he has to say about the decision-making and drafting under Bergevin, and if he generally agreed with their way of thinking.

All I can tell you is that Lapointe was REALLY grateful to Bergevin for hiring him.
So even if he disagreed with any decision he made, I doubt he'd say anything.

I know your kindness knows no bounds, and that you want habs fans to be happy more than anything, but it's okay, you can have him, we'll be fine. leafs fans deserve this after all they've been through.

And yes, as we speak, Savard is on the first pair as an RHD. He already was in a way playing with Romanov last season.
On the right side :
Savard
?
Barron
Wideman
Overplaying Wideman is an option |

After decades, we finally have a potential good first line (Slaf-Suzuki-Caufield) ... now we need a potent 2nd line and some RHD to balance our back end.
I'm not sold yet on Dach yet as I see him as a 3rd C ... unless he surprises me.
3rd and 4th liners are interchangeable and easier to find. |

Still alot of time before the season begins.
But considering we're not looking at making the playoffs next year, sure, make Wideman a regular defenseman. No problem.

but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having him on board, to bring his own perspective and opinions? I was thinking maybe he might've sometimes disagreed, even if he wasn't the one making the final decisions. |

If the kids are good enough to play? Sure.
Otherwise, let them learn in the AHL until they are.

voilà.
1- won't cost any assets.
2- by then, we'll have a better idea of what Dach will look like
3- maybe we will have drafted a very good center in 2023
and 4- we don't need PLD before 2 years from now anyway - fidopro
Or watch him walk away for the payday he desperately wants and get nothing out of it.

They decided to undress Pauline to dress Paul when they traded Romanov. Yes, they do get a d while trading Petry, but they were already missing one.
Like you said, playoffs won't be an option for a while, habs have no cap space, so Wideman in the top 4 might be it. |
