I find it amusing that so many people (on twitter more so than here) are more upset about this blathering human cliche machine choosing to leave than they were about a 24 year old, 40 goal scoring, future face of a franchise player being traded for jack (frank)ing poop. - Ogilthorpe2
He got traded a week ago. People have moved on. I doubt many (if any) are happy about the return, but can't do poop about it anymore, so you move on.
It's kind of like the trade for Jones. Sure, people are still upset about it, but it's not like anything can be done. |

So because one female broadcaster wasn’t very good think all of them aren’t? Pierre Maguire is an awful hockey colour guy, does that make you think all men aren’t qualified to be hockey announcers? - paulr
Nope just the bald ones. |

This season is going to be that much more painful having to listen to Cohen. The fans have suffered enough. Guy can’t help but talk about himself. - TheDrumonMadison
Did you watch the scrimmage a couple days ago? Despite having new coach Richardson and new GM Davidson on as guests Cohen managed to speak more words than either of them!!! ..... Does anything else need said about Cohen?
Edzo away from Foley is as good as it gets except for maybe Wiedeman and if he doesn't tweet good enough Ms Faulkner will find a way for them to "somehow" not find common ground for a new contract when that day comes.
I'll say this, the older I get, the farther away from old school PBP/Color guys and the more guys/gals are in the booth from the selfie generations the less entertaining/informative sport becomes and guys like Edzo and Foley for all their flaws are more and more revered.

To each his own. Now if you wanna talk about what a doomed society looks like I'll offer the stink of my own rear end as you just did and say Colby Cohen would be exhibit A. ...... Cohen says I more in one broadcast than Eddie O says in a yrs worth. Cohen, like so many of his generation, is incapable of feeling even the slightest bit of shame due to their grossly unqualified self importance.
For me there are a handful of analysts that I learn something from and thru his flaws Eddie is one of them. When he gets out his marker (yes his tired phrase of crayons is used too much) and breaks down where coverage went wrong, where positioning was off, where a team is taking away the left side of the ice and watching the F2 is the tell for that I'm hearing that from
very very very few. ....... Really only Eddie and Bieska do that to the point I learn something.
But as mentioned, Ogi, to each his own. Not unreasonable to think you're farther ahead than I am on things like that but gimme Eddie and Bieska and thru their flaws I learn a bit more about a sport so so few offer a fan other than keep your feet moving, head up, go to the dirty areas as "commentary".

As much as I hated him as Vancouver Canuck, Bieksa is an outstanding up and coming broadcaster. His knowledge, anecdotes and intelligent humour make him a very good colour guy. I’ve never been a fan of Olczyk, between his condescending attempts at outlining the finer points of the game and his childish humour. He was much better on the National feeds but there are many much better broadcasters in the US and Canada.

Ogi goes top shelf. Pat, what you have to do when you are so close in is put your hands straight up, to get the puck up there....

Imagine if they brought Bieksa into the booth here. It would be interesting as he intimately knew the Championship teams. |

Assuming you agree that a broadcast is subjective my measure of a good one tells me things I have no way of knowing (2 guys short on the bench, coach ran em thru a brutal practice, the 4RW was moved to 2RW for a few shifts a few games ago), teaches me things NHLers learned from being coached as an NHLer and an objective call.
How many color guys stop and point out you just saw a set play off the FO and what those options were? How many point out a team is taking away one side of the ice and how they're doing that? How many point out a change in systems from the period before? How many point out how one Dman gets a tell or read from his partner?
I know Eddie does, Bieska does, the NYR and ANA color guys do. How bout you and is that important to you?...... To me that's gold cuz I played goal all my life and was never coached on that part of the game.

If there is ever an option I watch any feed outa Canada. IIRC every single playoff game I watched this yr was a feed out Canada. Did not tune into ESPN or TNT once. Quite frankly a US feed compared to a Canadian one is really just sad .....And for what it's worth I haven't listened to a Foley/Eddie feed in yrs unless the alternative was BOS, DET, COL, AZ, CAR, PITT, NSH or LVG.

Nah- Denis Potvin doing color for the Panthers had to have been worse ... dude literally complained about a defenseman knocking a forward on his arse for taking an extra poke at the Florida goalie (probably van Biesbrouck at the time) ... as 'not having any idea why that (happened to be a Chicago one) defenseman would have done that) --he was positively (fakely) indignant about it.
-And - also need Jim Cummins ... good old #15 ... unless it is all about the speed ... then bring back Stahlberg if you can find him. |

Some people like him, I’m not one of those people. Yes he adds some insight to the game but his personality especially with Foley completely turned me off.

As mentioned, it's been yrs since I listened to a Foley/Olczyk feed unless the alternative was worse. I agree with you, those two a couple yrs ago were terrible. The forced "we are best buds" (the great Pat Foley-the great Eddie O) the Diana's cookies schtick combined with Foley rarely calling the other team by name cuz he was so unprepared made these guys a tough listen.
But Eddie on a national call minus that nonsense was/is an informative listen. Even Foley when Eddie was gone gave us glimpses of the back in the day Foley.
Thing is if you're old enough you know things rarely get better when there is change. Even though I didn't listen to Foley and Eddie much I expect the booth will get worse. The person/people doing the hiring thought enough of Cohen to give him a 5 yr contract, That's all I need to know what the future in the booth will look like. |

It appears it was his decision according to what is being reported. Saw a mention that the Hawks were "blindsided" by his decision and thought they had a verbal agreement on terms.
Maybe he just wanted to be closer to his kid and grandkids in Seattle. |
