Ferraro is from BC, Mike Babcock is from Saskatoon both talk like that, no? People in Northern Ontario have a similar accent. - paulr
They may have picked up an accent living somewhere else, but it's not from here. Holland doesn't talk like that.
The first time I ever heard anyone talk like that was from South Park. We don't even drop letters when pronouncing our citys, unlike back east.

Are most pf the broadcast going to contrinjue to be done remotely?
(Part of the Stanley Cup that I watched as announcers seemed to "announce goals quicker than then I watched the play finish...so that tells me many games were filled with outside feeds and tine delayed for broadcast.
I guess I understand Eddie doing all this from home, or his family is moving to the rain soaked west coast?
Again. just how much $ do we need?

I am sorry, but Ray Ferraro in my bopinio is REAL, close to the game, and all the World Junior and jwniotv toy=rnamnets he has bee part of has in my humble opinion, made him really good, honest and in sync wirh the plays and players.
if you don't see that, it is on you. |

Since the subject changed to PBP/Color men, I still would like to know what happened between the Blackhawks organization and Billy Gardner. Like him or not, he seemed to fall out of favor quickly. |

I think Darryl has learned to NOT say anything until he is sure what has to be said...I Will never forget that 2003 in Nashville draft when Blackhawk Bob and I ganstered our way to the mezzanine level where various teams were dioing having their final pre-draft strategy meeting...I looked in the crack and Calgary was meeting, so went looking for the Blackhawks but they were not there on the mezzanine of the arena. Wee walked back to leave and the Calgary group was living and being unshy, I approached Darryl and said, "I know you aere letting Dion Phaneuf drop to teh Blackhawks and taking one of those qi=uick small forwards."
Darryl acted taken back by my words and waited before saying, Oh the Blackhawk will do oK with their pick.
I think I caught him, until he realized as just some stupid frank who snuck up there.
I just think he doesn't WANT to talk to the press with the trite BS coa coaches are supposed to, so he sound more mush mouth tae whe he is at home, asking for his kid to pass the mashed potatoes...

That was one of the most fun drafts, b./c we ended up in the bar with all the scouts and many were former players I knew by sight. NJ was jubilant get Parise Sao late, Pierre McGuirew was just looking for wussy, and it was outside where that hAwk confrontation to place out the back door with (Tyler Arnason?????)
I really do not remember which wussy it was...

The oots and aboots are based on French Canadians speaking English. What part of Canada has the most French? Isn't there a province mostly dedicated to speaking French in Canada? |

10-20 yrs ago I'd think how can some who's hockey IQ I hold in high regard have such differing opinions on PBP/color guys than me? It really is simply a subjective exercise.
My favorite pair in the booth out of anyone is Gord Miller and Ray Ferraro. Gord is an encyclopedia without sounding/being self important like Pierre. Ray was a 5th rd pick, played 18 yrs and scored 408 goals. A dude who beat all the odds thru an honest cut no corners approach and he calls, and sees, the game the same way. He's another who can give a guy who wasn't coached at the highest levels some x's and o's few understand or can see as it unfolds.
Neither are self important and call the game old school, the way it should be, that it's the game we're all there for not the PBP Man or Color guy. ...... I could listen to these two guys call a Pee Wee game.
Now for me Doc was a tough listen whereas to most he's The Man. For me he'd be great on the radio where he describes every little detail but on tv he's over bearing. I appreciate his preparation but his style of non-stop call of things I can see he never allowed the game to breath..... A matter of preference, totally subjective.

New blog! Thoughts on the departure of Eddie Olczyk from the Blackhawks and how it amplifies what seems to be a growing issue with the organization.
Plus, notes on the signing of free agent Buddy Robinson and return of Adam Clendening for his 3rd tour of duty with the IceHogs.
