Other teams realize he's not 26 either.

If there's 4-5 teams with a legit shot to win the cup they'll pony up for Miller.

- golfingsince

They always do 😂👍

Well how is your massive optimism going? Remember just a couple of weeks ago you were talking about the upcoming bidding war for Miller? Management's poker strategies? Driving up prices? You've sure changed your tune over a short period of time. You can say what you want but your optimism has diminished and it's all on record.

- boonerbuck

My optimism is intact. I don’t worry about the worse case scenario. I buck that trend of so many others lol.

I did say JR has set a high ask & is trying to CREATE a bidding war. Takes time to let it marinade & not flinch to be a good poker player. As the offseason shortens the more pressure other GM’s will face especially once other top players sign or get traded. Patience

If he's even on the market. If the team is in a favorable playoff position, Miller isn't likely going anywhere.

I'm fully aware teams would pony up... but a smaller return and the possibility of management standing pat are legit concerns.

- boonerbuck

Legit concerns if one looks at the worst case scenarios. Purely conjecture without any real substantiated facts to back it up.

Give us an example pls

He has to be on the market regardless of playoff position if they can't sign him.
- golfingsince

This & it’s the best assumption we can make given the signs.

Kuzma hinting that the ask for Marino was Jack Rathbone and a 2nd round pick.

No kidding. If it's a quiet summer with no screw ups, that's fine.

This, even this year I remember Rutherford did an interview where he said that this team "deserved a chance" to see if they could push for the playoffs.
- Nucker101

That's right. You do the best you can with what you have at present. Worrying about assets for Miller that may/may not pan out 4-5 years from now is really not on their minds .

Yet. lol

At this point it looks like management's plan has been to keep this group together and tweak it. Add a bit of 4rth line sandpaper and middle 6 speed. They would liked to have moved Miller for a big return involving a high end RD prospect/young player plus plus but it never materialized. The plan probably is to play the season with him rather than taking a package like the one offered by the Rangers. Unfortunately, that will probably still be better than what's offered at the TDL at the end of his contract...

The fact they thought this team deserved a chance over moving Miller at the last TDL is a sign of where their mind is. It seems obvious now...

- boonerbuck

I disagree. They thought there would be more suitors with less cap restraints if they waited until the offseason. They overestimated the market.

This makes no sense. I've given examples of my concerns all through this thread. If my concerns became facts then we would be long past concerns of what the outcome may be and into analyzing the outcome...

Examples of what he fetches not a glossed over outlook of doom. There is nothing to believe the ask would happen nor what reality will show us til it happens if traded or signed. Stay tuned this isn’t close to being over. JR said as much

They literally said this group deserved a chance. It can be argued that perhaps they over estimated the market... but now that the draft and free agency dates have passed and you look at the moves or lack of moves, I do think they have backed up the "they deserve a chance" statement. Like I said, team still intact... few tweaks... no indication that they don't like this core like so many claimed or they would have made the moves on the critical dates past.

All I recall is JR saying to GM’s to make their best offer for any player.

I wonder if he’s said this trade or that has to start with so & so after calls on players. Hardest part to gauge is on what level trade talks are on. Doesn’t appear players are shopped other than maybe the dumps.

Everything with you is in the form of fantasy lines, fantasy trade packages, etc etc... you always expect people to reply in this manner and say as much... funny how when other people talk about potential scenarios you start going on about facts and then immediately return to your own hypotheticals etc... all day long you post about trade fantasies... so give it a break. I'll voice my concerns as much as I want.

Because they failed to deliver on the trade front, they fall back on the old clichĂ©s, “they deserve a chance”.

All true & good but without names or packages I find it beating around the bush. Posing offers gets it closer to the nitty gritty of it all. It’s fine if ppl don’t have offers to propose to give context but also helps if stating have none to offer or not enough insight into teams & their prospects etc.

Sure post concerns but you won’t admit it’s most pessimistic. No need to point out my optimism as a counter cuz I’m flexible & in no rush.

Standard MO to be expected. Media forces narratives & they don’t comply with them.

I'd lean that way if it wasn't for the follow up on draft and free agency and this group remaining intact while the pieces added were clearly to compliment this group and it's deficiencies. Maybe it isnt so much falling back on cliches as much as falling back on a plan B... I don't know really... just feel like they have decided this team has a chance this season.... or FA is influencing their plans perhaps.

As usual in here it’s so difficult at times to find the middle ground on player movement etc.

Taking one extreme or the other will get devils advocate responses.

I lean towards plan ‘B’. FA isn’t controlling anything imo.

Can you please add 4 roster line suggestions and 3 trade package proposals to this post... it's too gloomy.

Maybe they are sticking with the original plan. Your plan B is actually their Plan A. What then?

6/9m signed sealed delivered. No effect on the TDL other than who wants Miller not as a rental. Teams wanting a rental is too difficult to guess at this point in time. GM’s do want a bargain of course but want away.

Done many line-ups for perusal. They are both premature & boring being still so far away from the season.

I posted many packages in here & tbh bored with it all at this point in time. I leave it for CF ACGM’s to troll all of the many to knock every single idea. In there it’s only a poopfest of ppl saying no. Very lil constructive banter of bouncing counter offers. No counters in here also. Pointless to bother in the end.

Every Leaf offer has Kerfoot or Holl coming here. Says it all lol
