I think I’m most excited about what he can do this upcoming year (if healthy knock on wood). He looks like he can be something (dare I say a Kimmo lite)…I just hope the kid can contribute though.
- Oberyn23

Don’t tease us with the Timmo lite comment. But he is an NHLer. Could he turn into a top pairing defender. For sure. I would say he is looking like a project top 4 defender in the least.

Yeah. He is solid. Projects as a top 4 to me. Maybe he can grow into a 1B type guy.

I don’t have strong hopes for Attard. At least not on the Flyers.

I’ll put it this way. York couldn’t even leap frog over Yandle for most of the last. Frost kept getting shipped in and out of the minors and was in the line up, couldn’t find playing time with reliable linemates. So if these guys couldn’t be properly handed a well deserved spot on the team , how are Cates and Attard suppose to be?

- SuperSchennBros

Is this an indictment on the flyers development staff? I think you're right that they have been god awful for years...also think that Lappy seems like a poor choice for Head coach of Phantoms (with his resume...but I want to see a little more in lower level I guess)Attard looks like he needs some time in AHL...is Jason Smith still Defense & Assistant coach? I hope he can help round out Attard's game.

Agreed…on all fronts. If I was the devils I’d consider listening to their asking price. Might be the best type of player to help the youth come along. Flyers need to draft well, & not get sucked into long term depth signings. I’m still curious what Chuck was thinking about JG (as a UFA)…do you guys think he has quite a few good years left in him & could be solid with a young, talented team (assuming flyers drafted in top 5 again in 23 & maybe top 10 in 24)? Haha I wish I could see the direction of this team
- Oberyn23

I wish the Flyers knew the direction too .

Right. Laughton is a utility knife. He could even slot down and play 4th line center duties. Although would hate to have him there. But Allison is not equipped to play on the 4th line. If he stays healthy he could push for top 9 winger.
- peesinwind
Why would you hate to have Laughton on the 4th line? On a true contending team that is exactly where he should be slotted.

Well Yandle. It was about the streak at some point. But new coaching staff. We’ll see.

Nothing personal, but I feel as if Lappy should have been removed from this organization a long time ago. I mean, what exactly has he done well other than being a nice guy. This franchise needs to stop rewarding guys for performance on the ice(blocking shot with mouth in playoff game in this case) versus brains off the ice. Lappy wasn't good as an asst. coach and the Phantoms were a mess last year with him behind the bench.

He looked savvy in his short stint. Definitely looked like he belonged. Hopefully, he performs in training camp & Torts likes him
- Oberyn23

He was a monster on the forecheck. Played a defensively sound game. And chipped in some greasy goals. It just wasn’t a big enough sample yet nore did he play when the team wasn’t caving in.

But he was one of my hopefuls since his draft plus 1 year. So I’m probably to high on him.

There is a chance Frost is gonna play really well and get that fat contract at the end of the season.

Sometimes with a new coach, a team gets a spark and plays well. At least in the beginning.

This could be great for Frost.

Good night and good hockey.

- Captain_Ahab

It was a good contract for the Flyers. One year at a cheap price. They didn’t have much wiggle room so this gave them a little room to sign Tippetts for a couple years at least.

I guess paying him 3 mil to be
On the 4th line bothers me. And he has more potential then that.

Wrong.

You wrote back because you care. Otherwise, you'd be indifferent.

- Captain_Ahab

I am indifferent. Not one word about where Patrick and Frost were drafted was left in my posts because it doesn’t matter. Telling someone what they think or feel because you’re sad and pathetic doesn’t make you anymore right, it makes you just that. Sad and pathetic.

That's not true. Not with the level of scoring at ES that Laughton consistently produces. He's a 3rd line player. You also wouldn't want a 4th line player with a 3M cap hit on a contending team.

I have no personal feelings about the guy as a coach or person. I do remember Bill writing about how awful the season started (new/rookie coaching staff, injuries, etc.)...maybe Bill could comment better. They did turn it around though...just not enough to get into AHL playoffs. I truly don't care who coaches the Phantoms if the players that get called up are ready to play in 'Todays' NHL...just want to see the Flyers start being relevant again. I agree though that he seemed like a lazy choice for head coach. Honestly, I enjoyef listening to Jason Smith right after he was hired & am still hopeful…

If Allison could stay healthy then him and Tippett would be competing for the 3rd RW imo. I don't see Atkinson or Konecny the odd one out. This is all barring injuries and trades. Problem with Allison is that dude can't stay healthy for any period of time.

Can either Tippetts or Allison slot in on the LW spot? That was what I was looking at.

I still look at him as a 4th line player ( just completely disappears from the score sheet for long periods), but I forgot the fact that he makes 3 mil a year. Yet another overpaid player on this team, but yeah, at 3 mil a year he should be playing higher than the 4th line.

Laughton is a consistent player. He's not at all overpaid.

Again, I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree. I'm not sure in what way you mean he is consistent. He had 11 goals last season. The very reason that I don't like him is the lack of consistency. He'll look like a world beater for a 10 game stretch, and score 5 goals and 3 assists in that 10 game stretch. Then he will go through the next 25 games with one assist. That doesn't reek of consistency to me?

He plays 3rd line minutes. His point per/60 totals are solid for a 3rd liner. He gives you the same level of play every year.
