Only one of those futures has precedents chief. - DrMidnite
Precedents don't apply to people. For a precedent to apply to a situation. It needs to be a similar situation. |

1 mil on the cap now but
With performance bonuses up to 1.75? - peesinwind
This...he has a games played and ice time performance bonus clause. Not sure what those numbers needed to reach it are though....won't be surprised if it ends up with them in cap penalties again as a result, like with Farabee's bonuses (If I recall correctly) |

Fans tend to over value home team players/draft picks for odd reasons.
Hextall drafted him.
He's suppose to replace Giroux.
etc...
- Captain_Ahab
This is your imagination. I don't think who drafted him has anything to do with how good of a player he is or can become. Where he was drafted factors in. I don't know anyone who thinks or has expressed an opinion that he is supposed to replace Giroux.

Thank you for the write-up, Bill.
One question: you write about how Yeo needed to teach Frost how to change to play an NHL game ( keep your feet moving, use your body more, protect the puck etc.), and I appreciate hearing how that works, but shouldn't all of that be taught at the AHL level? Are we really supposed to bring in rookies to play in NHL games and then use those games to teach them how to play? I always thought of the AHL and, frankly, QMHL and NCAA and ECHL. as mostly preparing players to play at the NHL level, rather than just to please the couple of hundred fans in the stands? - therabbi
Not Bill, no one is..But in your view , should every player that makes the NHL be a finished product if they graduated from the lower levels? Your question isn't looking at the players as individuals, I would hope as professionals that they are always looking to get better not feel they made it. |

Thanks Bill.
As I stated yesterday, this season is set up for Frost to make some noise with a fat contract waiting for him.
At the same time, he was the 27th pick in the draft, not a top 5.
In fact, Ratcliffe was selected just 8 spots after him. Where's the love affair for him? - Captain_Ahab
I do quite like the kid who went 4 spots after Ratty.

Wrong.
Many fans viewed Frost as a possible center who could take over for Giroux.
They did not say Frost would put up the same numbers as Giroux.
But they did view him as a young offensive player who could be slotted in at the center position as Giroux ages out.
Many fans value Frost because he is a Hextall draft pick. - Captain_Ahab
Your obstinate replies of wrong isn't a good look for you.
Giroux is a border line hall of fame player. 2nd all time in points in franchise history. 1st all time in PP points. 2nd all time in assists in franchise history. Nobody is talking about him as a replacement for Giroux. Who by the way the last how many years was playing LW for the Flyers.
You're incorrect on both points. Fans don't care that Hextall drafted him. They have expectations because he is a first round pick.

Wrong.
Everyday you are negative and throw insults around.
Me. Well. Not one insult or emoji. So im good.
You also proved me correct.
As I stated, now for the second time, Frost was viewed by many as being slotted in as a center as Giroux ages out.
Giroux being moved to wing is partly because he was aging out.
It also fits the timeline as Frost started playing NHL games as this happened.
I also stated that Frost was not viewed as scoring the same points as Giroux.
You literally ignored facts and typed Giroux stats for no reason.
Again, you are wrong. - Captain_Ahab
No I didn't ignore anything. I posted his rankings in the history of the organization to show how silly your premise is. You don't even know the context of your own statement. You posted that fans overrate their own prospects and one of the reasons you gave for Frost was that he was supposed to be a replacement for Giroux. Now in terms of rating a player, does just being a center qualify for replacing a player the level of Giroux? Of course not.
Giroux was moved to left wing by Dave Hakstol. Frost was most definitely not playing NHL games at that point in time. |

I like the signing though. Gives them depth. He has been able to play both sides also. If Ellis comes out of IR then he can be play the 7th D role. Come up as injury or rest is called for. |

When the Rags were rebuilding and had an elite forward wanting to sign with them, they made sure they found the space to do it. - Feanor
Hear a lot about Panarin and Fox, but they also somehow managed to turn Brassard into Zibanejad + 33rd overall.
Those are the kind of trade wins that we can rest assured that Chuck will never be capable of. |

Rather roll with York and Attard on the bottom pair and live with the mistakes. Braun as the 7th. |

Wrong.
Frost was always viewed as a prospect who would reach the NHL around this time.
In fact, Frost 1st played for the Flyers in 2019/2020 season.
This is 3 years before Giroux's contract expired.
Again, this timeline shows he was viewed as a center to fill in for an aging Giroux.
Giroux moving to wing is proof of him aging out. Frost was viewed as a center who might fill in the position vacated by an aging Giroux.
The time-line proves this correct and proves Giroux was aging out. - Captain_Ahab
How does a timeline show that Frost is overrated by fans because they view him as a replacement for Giroux. When looking at a rating of a player, that has to do with the quality of a player, not a time line. Your comments here are laughable. Not to mention that Giroux was in the lineup for the majority of Frost's NHL games.
You made really a silly negative comment that was just plain wrong in how fans view Frost. I'm just pointing out that you're wrong about that. Just like you've been wrong about a lot of issues concerning Frost. |

I'd rather start Attard in the AHL, let him refine his play away from the puck. Get him some high minutes and playing time. Then when he has progressed significantly, call him up.

What about Attard’s play last season says he should play over a proven NHLer in Justin Braun? |

He looked much much better after his first few games. No issue starting him on the Flyers. Especially with Torts. Also no issue in the AHL though not much faith in the coaching staff. |

Did you watch his play as he got more acclimated? My guess is you didn’t.
Braun has zero future on the Flyers blue line. Attard does. |

You know what? You’re right. Inserting Ronnie Attard on opening night does sound like the Flyers way of developing young players. |

I don't think he is incapable of starting in the NHL. I just think some AHL time would be better. However I also think that training camp and pre season should be a legit competition. So if he outplays Braun. Then he should get the spot.
I think the Flyers have a defensive issue though on the right side if Ellis isn't going to play. Braun helps with that issue.

What would have the outcome if the Flyers got JG?
Would they have been a playoff team for the entire length of his contract?
Would they have been a cup contender for multiple seasons?
Would they have an aging player stuck on a long term high priced contract?
JG would actually hurt the team, he would help them be a middle of the road team and prevent them from getting a top 10 draft pick.
We just have to let the sudo tank happen and build through the draft. I don't like it but I do not see any other option. - WhiskeyMan
You call this a "sudo" tank? Then why are they capped out with a crappy roster? Our FO got whipsawed by a bunch of FAs and extensions they signed for mediocre to bad players. BTW, being a middle of the road team would be an improvement on what Chuck puts on the ice. |
