You realize they’d have to give up a ton to get him . IMO it would be a bad move for them. Price to get him and a $10M contract is way too much.
- ClaudeFather

Thanks. I just figured Calgary was going to give them to NJ for free 🤦‍♂️

It's a heavy price but if you want to shuck and jive with the likes of Carolina and NYR, I might be inclined to pull the trigger. Depending on the ask that is.
- Pelle31Forever

Missing out on JG for being cheap and then paying a kings ransom and paying Tkatchuk would be a horrible decision. They’ve put together a bunch of solid pieces, don’t make a dumb hasty move like this.

Well then your post made no sense. They’d be losing a ton.

Wrong.

Patrick and Frost were both drafted in the 1st round in the same draft.

They were viewed as hopeful replacements for the center position for the next 10 yrs as aging players like Giroux age out.

Some fans do value Frost since Hextall drafted him and did view him as a player to take the center position as Giroux moved to wing and ages out.

Patrick was also viewed as a possible top 2 center and a replacement for Giroux as he ages out.

Again, you ignore that fact that I and many fans never said Frost will score the same as Giroux.

Again, Frost was viewed as a possible top 2 center(along with Patrick) to replace Giroux. I, along with most fans never said Frost would score the same as Giroux.

You are wrong about everything. Nobody said Frost will score the same as Giroux.

Please stops lying.

- Captain_Ahab

What are you talking about? LOL. I didn't say that you said that Frost will score as much as Giroux. You crack me up.

You don't understand that what your basically saying is that other fans are overrating Frost because he is a center who is joining the team as Giroux gets older. There is zero logic behind that. Not to mention that Giroux was no longer playing center.
Nobody rates a player or his potential based on who drafted him. Another asinine comment. You made an uninformed and frankly dumb statement. I called you on it. Moving on.

Valid point but I'd give Calgary a call just to see what it would take. If it's too much, I'll pass. No biggie.

As a starting point, Calgary asks for Cutter Gauthier and next years #1. What else do the Flyers have?

You yourself have many times talked about GM's draft reccord draft history.

- Captain_Ahab

It's extremely scary and troubling that someone would have the logic to conflate rating a players potential with having anything to do with a conversation about a GMs draft history. I knew what I was dealing with when you made your first post and I foolishly involved myself. This just confirms it.

I heard a one year 2 way contract. AAV 800k+.

One way 1 year at $813,750 to be exact.

Not to interject but I think he means from NJs POV…I don’t think he believes going after a player like Tkachuk from the Flyers position makes sense (where they are currently at as a franchise).

Wrong.

The GM's draft history does show what he is looking for and what he is trying to build as well as what he values.

For example, Hextall drafting Patrick and Frost in the 1st round in the same draft shows he viewed this as a chance to hopefully get the Flyers 2 top centers for the next 10 years.

Hextall did not draft Patrick and Frost in the 1st round to be bottom 6 forwards.

He had the oppurtunity to possibly find the future down the middle for the Flyers and went for it.

- Captain_Ahab

Discussing a GM's draft record is looking at the past and looking at numerous players

Discussing a players potential is an attempt to look into the future of a single player

Past versus future.

Starting your replies with "wrong" makes you look like a child

What are you suggesting the Flyers do with Frost? Trade him? Put him in best position possible to flourish? Or let him play on 4th line in NHL lineup to earn his minutes? I’m not sure what the debate is? I have a hard time believing anyone here thinks Frost can be Giroux this year with lack of games played in NHL. He could have a breakout year if deployed appropriately.

Unless he has a horrendous camp Cates 100% should be starting in the NHL. Seeing how poor the Flyers are run he likely won’t.

So Cates and Attard have no long term future with the Flyers?

- furio16

Cates looked pretty strong when he got his look. I would think he has every opportunity to win a spot. It’s him and Allison pushing for spots as I see it. Brown and MacEwen are competing with them.

My bad. I was just reading the post that he was responding to, and it sounded to me like he was going from NJs POV. 😂 I’d have a hard time arguing this is not a flyers board, so I’ll agree with that

Not to mention, I don’t think Justin Braun is here just to be a 6th or 7th defenseman. I think Braun is here as insurance for the top pair, as he has been the passed two seasons.
- SuperSchennBros

Possible. Not sure what Chuck was thinking. Hard to follow him. The insurance was Tony D. The insurance to the insurance is Braun. This team might want to get an insurance to the insurance to the insurance with their injury history.

He made a claim that fans overrate Frost because they see him as a replacement for Giroux. Which to me means they think he can be as good as Giroux. He then went on a stupid rant about a timeline and that Frost plays center. Ignoring that Giroux played LW for the last 4 years. The other reason he gave for why fans overrate Frost is that he was drafted by Hextall. As if who drafted him has anything to do with how fans see a players potential. I made the mistake of engaging him. Good luck to you.

I hope I'm wrong but I see Brown and MacEwen as locks. Brown centering MacEwen and Deslauriers. All 3 players shouldn't be on the team.

That’s what really sucks. It doesn’t seem like management has much confidence in the Ratcliffs, Cates, and Allison (if he could stay healthy) compete for a spot. They’re content with 4th line journeymen.

This was in response to if the Devils would end with him.

But to answer your question in regards to the Flyers I'm hanging onto 1st round picks for the foreseeable future.

Yeah. I hope your wrong also. Not sure Brown and MacEwen are looks. Allison look like Tippetts until Allison got hurt (again🙄) and Cates was making plays. Both are not babies as they went through the college ranks. Brown and MacEwen are NHL players for sure. Just hope the kids are good enough to up seat them.

Nobody said Frost would put up points like Giroux. Only you went there.

The timeline showed Patrick and Frost were drafted by Hextall to hopefully be future replacements for Giroux at the center position.

And yes, fans to value draft picks made by Hextall.

- Captain_Ahab

You can't even figure out that I'm not saying that you did say he would put up points like Giroux. Even when I have directly told you that. Numerous times.

Fans don't overrate draft picks based on the GM that drafted the player.

Hopefully Noah Cates gets a shot a 3LW with Frost and Tippett.
Kind of sucks for Laszynski and Allison imo.
