exactly! how often do we see sign and trades in the NHL? (frank)ing never! what motivation does Tkachuk have to resign with Calgary just so they can get more back for him? These Flames fans are stupid expecting a king's ransom back. It is highly UNLIKELY he resigns before a trade and a 1 year rental is NOT going to bring back a massive return.
No one knows better than a Devils fan how bad it sucks to lose franchise pieces for nothing, but that is exactly what Flames fans are facing with losing JG and soon Tkachuk. - jtylerm
He would be the ultimate rental at the Trade Deadline especially when the Flames can eat salary & the cap hit isnt that large at that point & we would have at least 15 teams chomping at the bit. Not a stretch to get a 2023 1st, 2nd, top prospect & probably a roster player. Thats if we do nothing.
Dont understand Jersey fans on this. Lebrun already reported Jersey had the 2nd over all pick on the table on a blockbuster trade for Tkachuk. Personally I was so choked we didnt take that serious because Wright would have been a great piece to start a rebuild. Nope our stupid GM was intent on getting both Gaudreau & Tkachuk resigned & ignored the flags flapping. What has changed now from the draft? Personally, I dont know how Treliving says no to Sharo, Bratt & the 2023 1st. I also see Tkachuk letting everyone know what it would take to sign a 4 to 8 year new deal. With Fitz family connection, I see a good chance Matt would extend longer. I think the smart play with Matt is convince him cap are going to rise substantially in 3-4 years & possibly a 4 or 5 year deal for around the 9.5 is the way to go. Remember, he's only 24, he would still be in his 20's to score another long term deal at that time. I think Tkachuk would have more benefits to you than if you got Gaudreau quite frankly. Interesting enough,Bieska (who covered a lot of our telecasts) on an interview the other day felt Gaudreau was the 3rd best player on that top line.
Whatever, Tkachuk would definitely fast track your march to being a contender. As a Flame fan we went from a pretty exciting year to who doused us with gasoline & lit us on fire. First Battle of Alberta in 30 years & now we dont see another one in the near future. |

1st, 2nd, prospect, and roster player is way different than people thinking they're just going to get straight up 2 roster players and 2 prospects that will make the jump within 1-2 seasons. Nobody is just going to rebuild your entire team on the fly for one player, they don't make trades like that anymore. Especially when everybody know how the Tkachuk family is and being very hard to negotiate contracts with. The principle part of the deal is that the team trading for them need a guarantee that he will actually sign with them and probably why nothing has happened yet. |

Well after this later news that Tkachuk doesnt want to sign long term & has given a list of teams he will sign long term, if I were Treliving, I would tell Fitz to feel free & call Matt & talk contract with him before making the deal. I guess everything is on the proverbial table now. |

@auddiejames
In this article by Jeremy and Hailey, they mention that Tkachuk has a list of teams that he would wish to sign long-term with.
St. Louis, Vegas, Florida, Nashville and Dallas.
Also notes that New Jersey and the New York Rangers could be in the mix as well.
Seems like he's going to have to broaden his destination targets because a lot of these teams don't have cap space/assets to acquire him... |

I never understand how people come up with these insane trade offers. Is Bratt nearly as good as Tkachuk, no of course not. Is Tkachuk worth gutting our team? Again, he is not.
Tkachuk had 42 goals and 102 points.
Bratt had 26 goals and 73 points.
SO 16 extra goals and 29 additional points. That is a pretty significant bump for a single player but, some of these packages where people are offering Bratt, a 1st, Holtz, and or and additional asset are just ludicrous.
It is friggin Matt Tkachuk not Connor McDavid. Hell, even if we got McDavid we'd still struggle to compete for the post season. We're only gonna succeed with the team game. We're never gonna be Toronto or the Avs with 3 lines of all stars. We gotta model our game after the Canes of the world. |

Would love to sign Tchachuk but don't want to lose Jesper in the process. The whole point is to have 2 scoring LW's, not trade one away to get another one

We didn't make the list (shocking, I know) So luckily we don't gotta worry about it. Hopefully we can get someone major next off season |

Apparently the list might be a lie, probably agent leaked to drum up interest. |

While MT may he a great player the reality is the devil's shouldn't be in on him.
It will take a good amount of assets and the devil's aren't at the point in the rebuild to give those assets away as there would be no one close to replace them.
After nemec and Hughes there is a sizeable drop off in talent defensively and other than Holtz is there a top forward prospect?
If we were further down the road sure |
